Pink | 5491 comments This looks great! I didn't get around to The Canterbury Tales this year, but I guess I have a month left!

Good luck!

message 3: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments Looks like a good list! There's several on there I've read and liked.

I've been meaning to read I, Claudius for quite awhile myself.

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments Sarah,

In case you didn't know, there is a magnificent miniseries of "I, Claudius."

My public library has it.

Thanks, Pink!
It was one of my alternates for this year, but I didn't get to it. So its going on the main list for next year.

Thanks, Melanti. Its been on my TBR awhile, thought it was high time to get to.

Its actually one of my dad's favorites miniseries. Its what put the book on my radar to begin with.
Thanks for pointing it out though :)

That's why its still a tentative list. This might be a little too ambitious.
I'm trying to balance what I want to do with what is realistic. This year's was a total fail so I'm taking more time to plan this year to plan this one out.
Trying to make sure as many as possible of the things from this list would work for Bingo too will help.

Sarah | 468 comments Sara wrote: "Congrats! You are really keeping pace with this challenge!"

Thanks!

My goal for this year was to try to do one of these a month or to have at least one going at any given time since a couple of these are monsters that will take a while. Not working out exactly that way right now, so far so good on number completed anyway!

I don't know I even bother with a plan anymore, to be honest!
You know that scene in Pirates of the Caribbean when Elizabeth brings up moments to do the right thing and Jack comments that he likes waving at those moments as they pass by? That's me and plans right now, lol

message 28: by Renee (last edited May 16, 2017 07:12PM) (new)

Renee | 727 comments I'm not much of a planner when it comes to reading. I have a list of books for this challenge, and the bingo challenge, but no plan on which order to read them. I usually just grab whichever book I feel like reading next. The only one planned is Count of Monte Cristo, which I have planned for later in the year, but even still, no set time or month to start it!

Neither am I Renee, that's why I don't do challenges. Challenges, to me, are too structured. I'm surprised that I even join in for the monthly book reads! I read books that I'm in the mood for usually. It seems to work for me. 😊

I'm beginning to think challenges with set list aren't for me.

I like the BINGO challenge and there's a challenge in one of my other groups that's just a list of "a book that has (X)" or "a book set in (X) place", etc. I think I might stick to those in the future.

message 33: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments I sometimes wish I could avoid all the challenges so I can have more freedom in my reading, but I don't have the strength to do it! I get sucked into all the challenges and then create more of my own!

Bingo is great for being able to participate without having a rigid plan to stick to. They should all be fun, not a chore :)

message 34: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments Sarah wrote: "I'm beginning to think challenges with set list aren't for me. ..."

Set list challenges aren't my strong point either. I usually feel accomplished if I can read about half of the list.

message 35: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 468 comments Been doing terribly on this front for the last few months. Back at it!

Currently reading Le Morte d'Arthur: King Arthur and the Legends of the Round Table. It is really slow going but I'll get there eventually!

Going to get started on The Heretic's Apprentice in the next day or two.

I feel like I've been reading it forever and I'm not quite a quarter of the way through it.
But I shall persevere and finally be able to say I have read it!

message 45: by Sara, Old School Classics (new)

It happens, Sarah, just carry the ones you don't finish over to the next year. What matters is that you enjoy the ones you do read.

message 46: by Nente (last edited Oct 24, 2017 04:27AM) (new)

Nente | 746 comments It seems to me a brilliant idea to read Paradise Lost and Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch close to each other - and then probably finish up by His Dark Materials, for good measure! Your list is great in any case, Sarah =))

I am finding that I struggle with set list challenges.
I'm too much of a mood reader.

Thanks, Nente!
I'm reading Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witchright now and really enjoying it.
Going to try to get Paradise Lost in next month.
I loved His Dark Materials ! I haven't read them in forever. I want to do a reread but won't have time to squeeze it in this year.

message 48: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 468 comments Done with Good Omens.

Still four more to go....

message 49: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 468 comments Well, this wasn't a success.

8/12 on the main list and one of the alternates read.
