Zaz | 2969 comments The "from author" are categories proposed by the authors. They are interesting but they seem closed (I prefer wide prompts, it'll be hard to find books that fit for some of these).

The list is very oriented toward diversity, which is a good thing (I don't have all the 2017 challenges in mind, but I think it's a global goal).

I like:
- a debut
- LGBTQ+ author
- Classic by POC
- micropress

I dislike:
- book about sport
- spiritual journey
- book about war

Charity (faeryrebel78) | 552 comments Well I may end up filling some of these in but I won't be completing it. I know they like to add diverse topics but some of these I really just don't care to read.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I like some of these, but really don't like others. Some of them just feel ridiculously specific - although I guess it's why it's the read harder challenge. :/

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Like in 2016, I won't do this challenge because the prompts are far too specific.

MJ | 954 comments It's a good challenge. I actually like how specific it is, but honestly, I likely won't finish *our* 2017 challenge, never mind a secondary one!

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) I like the challenge as a whole but I question why there are two LGBTQ books and three regarding persons of color and two with female character/authors. Not that I mind any one of those topics, but it seems redundant to have two or three topics specific to the same "theme".

I don't know if I will do this one as it overlaps a little (lot) with our challenge and Popsugar. I have several small challenges that I have added to those two for next year already so I think I will probably skip bookriot 2017.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3270 comments I'm excited for this one, but there are a few topics that I don't really care for (sports, for example). Definitely going to need some help finding books to fulfill some of the prompts.

Anyone know of any books from a micropress? I had never heard of them before, but from looking into it, they don't seem like they'd be available in public libraries.

My thoughst exactly!
Overall I think it's a great challenge, because it really is a challenge. Some topics would be hard to fulfill, but I actually like the fact that they are so specific.
That said, I don't think it will be a challenge I'll complete. That's if I decide to add it to my 2017 challenges.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Actually I think it's just the one topic that stood out as too specific (for me) - Read a collection of poetry in translation on a theme other than love.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3270 comments I really like the challenge in general. I always find the BookRiot list the hardest one to fulfill, but I also find this year's list particularly frustrating. If I understand it correctly, some of the topics were chosen by specific authors. They picked some really challenging ideas, but I'm not sure if they put too much thought into how easy it was to fulfill them. The mircopress one especially.

Krista I'm going the Read Harder as well as this one. I'm not a sports fan really, and the sports I do like and enjoy watching, some people look at me really strangely (I freaking LOVE watching a basho).

I struggled with the sports one until I realized it didn't have to be mainstream. I going to read a book about a young woman who is blind and completed the iditarod. ;)

Some of are very specific but I'm looking forward to completing them and can always find some worthy suggestions from others in the challenge.

Zaz | 2969 comments The 2018 list should be online tomorrow if they follow their usual schedule :)
