Reading Goals 2017

Yup. I rarely read books that are over 500 pages so I can read most books pretty quickly. I'm also very motivated with all the challenges and trying to find spots for my A-Z Challenge books. :)

How many books do you normally read per year?"
Thank you! I usually read around 70 books.

I'm having a pretty slow start this year, didn't really have that much time to read. I've read 5 books but joining goodreads has made me a lot more motivated to read so I've finally started making my book list for this year.
How far are you with reading?

I think I'm at 22 books for the year. Which is good. My goal is at least 50. But I'm sure I'll surpass that. I'm just tired of focusing on numbers, so I'm focusing on reading what I really want to read. :)

I usually plan out my reading, I spend a day writing a list so when I want to read, it doesn't take me hours to find a book I'd like.
I just look for books that would interest me, hopefully with poetic writing and a lot of metaphors, though it's rare to find those.
I'm usually guilty of reading to little or too much that I forget what I read in a week. Hard for me to find that balance, so the numbers help me recall what I've read.

@Emily. I also have difficulty remembering what I read and what it was about. That's what I love about Goodreads and why I usually write my reviews right after I read my books. Otherwise I completely forget what happened in my previous book once I've started my next one. :)

I guess I'll need to improve my reviews, I just write them in a minute, forgetting that I would need to read them one day.

I rarely read my reviews again after I've written them. But I have gotten a lot better at writing my reviews since I joined Goodreads. Before I never thought about what I read. I'd skip parts I didn't like or didn't find interesting and would speed through books like no tomorrow. I still read pretty fast but I now take my time and really try to understand what I'm reading and enjoy it. Before I could barely write a sentence about what I read now I'm up to several paragraphs. :)

I also used to skip the uninteresting parts especially if I knew it would take more than a day to read the book. Though I've learned to stick through even the most boring parts. But I still try to read a book in one day no matter how long it is, a little part of me dies inside if it takes 2 or more days to read a book.

@Emily. I also have ..."
I agree with the trying to stick through the boring parts. I love action and romance so when the author is setting the scene or if the author is overly descriptive I die a little inside. I think that's one of my main faults as a writer. I can't describe the scene and therefore no one knows what's going on. lol.
I don't mind taking a while to read a book but it has to be one of the only books I'm reading at the time or I can't have gotten more than 10% or I've completely forgotten what happened and have to start over. :/

@Emily..."
When I write I don't describe the scenes enough but the characters clothes, walking, etc. I describe too much. I guess I'll need to edit a lot.

I have the same issue. lol. :)

I like making lists as well. This year I set my goal of ten books, so that helps. I also have some favorite authors and a bunch of books I already own, so I include those on a seperate list. It's rarely hard for me to pick a new book.
Goodness, if I tried to finish all my books in one day I would go crazy! I used to do that more so, but I gave it up. Especially since I read quite a few long books. Reading 500+ pages in a day isn't always possible.
I'm trying to find a good balance with my writing. I love description, but it has to be done right. I'm not sure I pull it off.
Emily, have you read All the Light We Cannot See? That's a great one as far as writing goes, I think.

Reality gets in the way of reading way too much lol. Sometimes I get more read than other times. And sometimes (like last night) I stay up way too late reading... The challenges sure help. :)

Exactly! I especially love this group. I have been in and out of groups, because I couldn't get comfortable. This one is like family. I like y'all! :)

Aww! We love having you as part of our little corner.:) Glad we're one of the groups you stuck with.

No, I have not. I looked it up and it isn't really the type I'm used to reading, but a little change would be good. For now, I put it in the back of my list for summer reading. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm recently into YA fiction and as usual, fantasy, trying to find cheerful books, getting tired of every book I read being depressive, probably because it's spring outside.

I also want to get my To-Read list down under 500. I went through it and deleted a bunch of poorly rated books. I also started at the beginning and have started reading the early books on my list. I'm definitely going through the fiction faster than the NF so I'd like to read more NF.
I also have several series I've been meaning to re-read but Idk if I'll get to that this year.

I've tried to do that for the past three months but the challenges all look so good. I'm a self sabotager it seems. :(
I'll just have to make some time. :/

Maybe you could do solo on the challenges or something, Bookbuyer. Then there wouldn't be as much pressure since you don't have a team.

I might try that. :)

And I haven't been able to read my owned books at all. Just library books.
But I am reading so yay.

Pretty good. I dropped down from 500 to 450 so I'm under 10 books behind. I'm still hoping to get to 500 but I'm not sure I'll be able to. :/

But this month is the only challenge where they count so I don't think I'll have much time. I guess I can try for November/December. They still won't count but I won't be on a team and therefore my team won't be counting on me. :/

So my new goal for the day/week/month is 700.
I almost certainly won't stay at that but it's nice to know how much I could possibly aim for next year. :D
