Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Sam | 1052 comments Hi team! Happy to play with you. Since this is my first time playing, I don't think I should be captain.

Natalie | 549 comments Here! I don't think I've ever been team #1 before so this is a new experience. I think this is my fourth round of BSB but it was my first team game so I'm excited to play again. I haven't captained before but I should be able to if no one else wants it.

message 14: by Katie (new)

Katie I'm not picky about team names. Any of those will work for me. :)

message 15: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments Has anyone heard from Regina yet? She's the only one who hasn't checked in.

message 16: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments I sent her a PM.

message 17: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Hi so sorry, I somehow had it calendared as starting later and was oblivious as I was in the hospital with my mom. Thank you Natalie!

message 18: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I like all of the names chosen, I am horrible at naming stuff (my #4 child didn't have a name for 6 weeks, lol) - I like the ones chosen and will agree to anything. :)

I cannot captain, but I can assist and I can alternate weeks if needed.

Yay for #1!

message 19: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I have played many times and even had one winning round, any suggestions from others who have played?

For me, I find it useful to figure out how to find books that are shelved now, before they are called and to shelve books now that I want to read - -using the categories above.

message 20: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments Yeah it doesn't start for awhile, so we get lots of planning time. I've never had a winning round, unfortunately, but I love playing.

There is also a new rule:

To win Bingo, every called shelf must be stamped. ie every book for every shelf for the winning team must be read, rated and reviewed, and then stamped. (Link)

Also, I will likely need help tracking to see how close we are to winning as we need to fit one of these designs.

I always talk about planning out books in advance, but it never works out for me, so I don't really bother anymore. Also most of the other games I'm in right now I don't know what the tasks are in advance.

Look over the Q&A and let me know if you have any questions.

message 21: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments Oh if you are having trouble finding a book on a shelf that you're pretty sure it is on, use this tip to quickly check:

message 22: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments And since we're all being nice about names, here's a poll to help us decide:

Sam | 1052 comments I hope your mom is okay, Regina.

message 24: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Thank you Sam -- it has been a rough road. Just released (finally) to skilled care rehab.

I voted -- thanks for setting up the google form.

message 25: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments We sure are a quiet group. Hopefully, we'll be livelier as it gets closer.

Katie Sam wrote: "We sure are a quiet group. Hopefully, we'll be livelier as it gets closer."

We certainly are! I've been trying to reorganize my house since Christmas blew through and get myself situated here on GR with all these shiny new challenges. :P I'm sure it'll pick up as we get closer to starting.

message 27: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments Have we picked a name yet?

message 28: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments 3 votes, I think Katie hasn't seen it yet so I'll send her the link.

message 29: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments I think I was the one who forgot to vote but I did it now. Sorry *hangs head in shame*

message 30: by Regina (last edited Jan 07, 2017 11:42AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments So I will have to time perfectly ending my books before the shelf is called. I hate when the shelf is called and I already started my book!!

Anyone else start prepping shelves? I hope to do that today. It is so cold here.

What time zones are you all in? So we know for reporting and adding books? I am central. On 1/20 - 1/25 I will be traveling to London for work so I will be on U.K. time on those days.

Shelf will be called:

A shelf will be posted here every Wednesday on/around 12:30p (Pacific Standard Time) = 7:30a Thursday (Australian Eastern Daylight Time)
R14 Begins: Wed, 18 Jan 2017

Timezone converter: http://www.thetimezoneconverter.com/

For me in Chicago/Central time -- shelf will be called at 2:30 pm.

message 31: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Who wants to co captain with me? I will rough out the template.

message 32: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Just checked, we are actually the second chattiest group. :)

To more fully introduce myself, I am a long time book shelf bingo veteran, I blogged and reviewed for years but took a break for a few years, I have four kids, I am a corporate litigation attorney, I am married, I have 3 huskies, I live in Chicago, I also run a non-profit, and my mom is currently in skilled nursing rehab (thank goodness -- just transferred) near me -- so I prefer not to captain but can help. ;) I read a variety of books literary fiction, pscyholgoical thrillers, cozy mysteries, mysteries, realistic romance, some YA, and for me -- legacy UF/PNR/SF. I used to be very heavy into UF/PNR/SF but after years of reading hundreds of books every year I slowed down in these genres, but still read books to continue out series and by my favorite authors (eg Ilona Andrews).

Here is a rough template (whomever wants to captain I can share it with the html):

Team 1 - [insert team name]: Week 1: [insert shelf]
Katie [insert book and author link] - [insert link to review] [insert star rating eg ★★.5]
Regina [insert book and author link] - [insert link to review] [insert star rating eg ★★.5]
Natalie [insert book and author link] - [insert link to review] [insert star rating eg ★★.5]
Sam [insert book and author link] - [insert link to review] [insert star rating eg ★★.5]

No problem, I just guessed it had been Katie since she hadn't posted since then.

We are the Reading Aces!

Regina I should be fine with being captain. Thank you for the template, I remembered that there was one but I hadn't tracked it down yet.

message 34: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I just made it up based on past games. You can tweak how you want and change and do anything. Let me know if you want me to email yuh the HTML.

message 35: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments And thank you for taking this on!!!

message 36: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments As for me, this is my fourth time at Bingo. Still no wins so maybe fourth time is the charm?

I live near Boston in the US so shelf calls will be at about 3:30PM for me. I have no kids but a husband and two awesome cats that I adore. They were taken in by a rescue group when they were about four weeks old and we adopted them when they were eight or nine weeks. Winry loves to cuddle on me when I am reading. Which is a problem if I need to get up to use the bathroom. Oberyn's favorite pastime (other than sleeping) is meowing for food.

I read a bit of everything, but fantasy has always been a favorite. Dragons especially.

message 37: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments I added a tracking area to Post #7 above (my first post). Has anyone chosen their free space book yet?

message 38: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Aww. Your kitties sounds great. Love that you rescue. We do too.

Good reminder. I will choose one this weekend.

I will actually be in Boston the first week of February and on a Wednesday. I love Boston.

message 39: by Sam (last edited Jan 07, 2017 01:11PM) (new)

Sam | 1052 comments I live in Ohio, EST. That means calls for me will be at 5pm (if I did the conversion correctly), which is great since I'll just be getting home from work. I am not married or have kids but I have 4 furbabies (Daphne, 5yo dachshund, Durango 6 mo dachshund, Tux a 15yo cat and Shade a 15yo cat). I work at the local children's hospital so I'm pretty busy at work. I read quite a bit, usually a book every 1-2 days so I won't pick my free space book until closer to start of game to make sure that I don't read it too soon. This is my first game of BSB, since I joined SOS during round 13 but I followed along and it looked like a lot of fun so here I am. And I am super excited to get started :)

message 40: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments Nope, I did the conversion wrong. It should be around 3pm I think. My brain is too tired to do math.

message 41: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Lol! Your call will be one hour after mine and the same time as Natalie's - 3:30.

I am traveling to Cincinnati quite a bit for work right now.

Love your pets' names.

message 42: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments My free space book will be Mind Magic by Eileen Wilks

Mind Magic (World of the Lupi, #12) by Eileen Wilks

It is mentioned on the best of audio series thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... post #24

message 43: by Katie (new)

Katie Hi guys! I'm in Pittsburgh, PA. I'm married with 2 small kids and I'm a stay at home mom. This is only my 2nd round of BSB and I'm excited to play again! :)

Thanks, Regina. I always name my pets the first thing that pops in my head when I see them and those are the names I came up with. It's an easy way to name the little devils. I think I am done getting pets for now; 4 is more than enough.

message 45: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments One week to go. I'm getting antsy.

message 46: by Katie (new)

Katie You're not the only one, Sam! :P

message 47: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments This is a long wait...

message 48: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments I know. I keep checking to see if it's Wednesday yet. This wait is agonizing!!! Luckily I'm working this weekend, so it's making time pass a little faster.

message 49: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments Now that we are only 4 days out and I have my next week's books planned, I should probably check and see if any of them will work for free space.

message 50: by Sam (last edited Jan 14, 2017 01:14PM) (new)

Sam | 1052 comments I will pick Dragon Spawn by Eileen Wilks. It fits option 2 for free space: (2) Any book within a series found on one of SOS' member-generated BEST OF lists (PNR series, UF series, YA Fantasy series, stand alone novels, and audiobook series).
World of the Lupi is #32 on the Best of Urban Fantasy series list.
