Shelley | 1225 comments I would be interested in hearing what true crime books you avoid or just don't like, if there are any.

I avoid these because they don't interest me:
Robberies
Espionage
Organized crime
Political crime

I generally avoid these because I know I would find them too upsetting:
Child abuse
Hate crime & injustice (ex. Emmett Till)

I also avoid unsolved crime. I like it when the bad guy/gal is caught. There are exceptions like Jack the Ripper. :)

Fishface | 18884 comments I cringe away from stories about captivity and torture.

Heists and mobs stories do nothing for me. Just boring.

I have never read any Mob stories. It does not capture my interest in the least. I did read Sickened by Julie Gregory but I was disappointed in the book so I just skimmed through it. It was a story that needed telling by an experienced true crime author to shine the light on child abuse.

Koren (koren56) | 1603 comments I am also not into espionage or organized crime, although I will give them a try now and then, but they are not my favorite.

One that I am getting bored with is the spouse killing spouse story. They are getting to all sound the same. I like something with a different twist to it.

I agree Koren. The spouse killing spouse is getting old. It seems more interesting when that happens if it's the wife plotting. Women serial killers and murderer's are what I am concentrating on right now. I must say that there are a few mob stories that do look interesting. Although I still haven't attempted to read any of them.
