Wikipedia refers to an article in the New York Times saying the book was originally called that when Knopf bought the rights.
"A year later, when the booksellers met in Anaheim, Calif., for their annual convention, Knopf had prepared handsome advance readers' editions of the book with its new title, "The Secret History," which it distributed generously. This paperback of the bound galleys foreshadowed the unusual size and cover of the novel."

I would think the original title applies to the published book and not to whatever the manuscript/typescript was called. It looks odd to see the first edition having an original title that differs from the one on the cover.
Can I change the original title back to The Secret History?
