I actually created a reading journal including some bookish questionnairs, where you can answer a couple of these kinds of questions. Indecisively and in no particular order; off the top-of-my-head:

Jane Eyre - An incredibly strong and moral female character, also quick-witted and clever. However, I do imagine if she were alive today, and I knew her, I would find her to be quite insufferable.

Jean Valjean - Honorable beyond reproach really, as long as you don't hold that candlestick thing against him.

Dobby - I am of that generation (the HP generation) and how can anyone not love that amazing civil rights leader of the house elves.

Dolores Claiborne - Again, a helluva strong woman. A hard woman perhaps, but sometimes you need to be hard to protect those you love.

Mattie Ross - A force to be reckoned with at the tender age of fourteen.

really i should try to think of one that anyone will actually know but it's Cal Leandros from Nightlife. it has been for years, as much as i try to pretend it's not lol
