Book a day

Over the years, I have given 5 copies of Precious Bane to friends. It's a book I like a lot, and at one stage it was really h..."
Yes, I think the book is very under-rated, Dhanarah.

I should catalogue them all, but who has the time?
One book that we had in more than three copies (sic!) is The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

The Blind Assassin
Catch-22
Canada
And I haven't yet read them, lol ugh.

I love Alexander McCall Smith, but I really wasn't too keen on Portuguese Irregular Verbs so I have not read any more Prof. Iglefeld.
Also, I was quite disappointed in Hollow City the sequel to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children which I gave 5 stars.
June 8th A book you own more than one copy of
Bit similar to yesterday. I've had a recent clear out so no books for me but I used to own 2 copies of Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks

Which one, Shirley?"
It was The Handmaid's Tale, Petra. I took it back to a charity shop. If I still had it, that would be my answer to the next question!

This possibly looks like sneaky promotion for our seasonal poet, but here are my two copies of one of my favorite books The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa

I have the English copy of Sparrow, Temptation and Cavalleria Rusticana and an Italian copy of the same (Storia di una capinera).

Also, I have English and Spanish copies of poetry by Antonio Machado and Pablo Neruda.

I have a few book doubles, but do own 6 copies of The Great Gatsby I couldn't resist picking up another edition if it had a particularly nice cover, though I haven't bought one for quite a while now!

I on two copies of Infinite Jest, a paper copy & the ereader version.

I have two copies of the first volume of And Quiet Flows the Don. I found it at the second hand bookshop and I loved it so much that I looked for all the 4 volumes. I had to buy all the four books so I have twice the first volume.
I have also two copies of Lord of the Flies, one in English and one in Italian. I love so much this book that I gave it to my son when he was a child but he wasn't yet able to read such a book in English so I bought for him the Italian edition.
I had also two copies of one of those books about pregnancy (one bought by me and one received as a gift). I sold one at the second hand bookshop.

Not yet, I got the German edition first but I found it very difficult to understand the text so I ordered the English one to be able to read it.
Have you read anything else by Max Frisch?

The World According to Garp by John Irving; one hardcover first edition (for keeping) and one paperback edition (for reading).

June 9th A book with a film or tv-tie in

What do you intend with a film or tv-tie in?"
Post a book you own that has later been turned into a movie or tv-show I suppose!

Oh yes, and also Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Fabulous book, reasonable film.

The Piano Teacher

Cloud Atlas and I didn't like nor the book neither the movie.
The Book Thief: I have liked much more the book.
La fine è il mio inizio (sorry, there is no English edition); the film wasn't bad but I really loved the book!
I am sure there are a lot more (I remember to have seen also Rebecca a lot of years ago) but I don't remember them now. Ahhh, a lot of Stephen King, of course!
Sever of the books I've read and loved have been turned into films or tv-show.
Think of all the times my favourite book - Pride and Prejudice - has been mande into a film or serie! The BBC version of 1995 is my favourite.
Generally speacking I'm deluded by this transformations. One exception is Sostiene Pereira http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TSPjA...

Years ago, I read/owned Sophie's Choice and watched the movie. Both were great (as I recall). My memory says that the movie followed the book exactly and was, therefore, a bit better because the book was very descriptive in spots (pages & pages to describe a house, for example).
And, of course, Pride and Prejudice.

The World According to Garp by John Irving
Schindler's List by Thomas Keneally
Women in Love by D.H. Lawrence
Nobody's Fool by Richard Russo
and many more. I make it a rule never to watch the film until I have read the book.

Same rule for me!

If you include audiobooks, I now have quite a lot! However, I will put Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, A Tale of Two Cities and David Copperfield - these I own in paperback, Kindle, and audio format!
June 9: A book with a film or tv-tie in
Well, all the books I listed above are also films :)

Amber, I loved all three books, my favorite was Little Men, loved the antics of the boys. Jo's Boys was my second; being a young girl, the boys intrigued me. How about Eight Cousins, the only girl cousin surrounded by her eight male cousins. Yes, liked the boys. :)
My all-time was The Secret Garden and A Little Princess both by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I think these two set me up to love British literature for life and mysteries.
Colleen wrote: "I recently finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and have the movie from the library to watch."
Didn't like it so much. What do you think of it?
Ian wrote: "The Shining...prefer the film though"
Both my husband and son loved it, even more than the film!

Sorry, haven't been online much.
My book for this would be Game of Thrones. Love both the books and the tv series

June 10th A book that reminds me of somebody I love

Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter.

There isn't such a book in my shelves :/

Every once in a while I end up with duplicate copies of books. I forget what I have, and see something in a used book store and get it. Wales And The Wars Of The Roses was one not too long ago.
Then there are the books that I intentionally get more than one of - hard cover and ebook. Especially if I see the ebook offered free... And I have the first Harry Potter book in both English and Welsh.
And Bibles. I'm not particularly religious, but I have at least a dozen, including my grandfather's bible full of his hand-written notes, my great-grandmother's German Bible, a NT in Koine Greek, a Welsh Bible, a parallel bible (4 different editions side-by-side, etc.
