Gibbons Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Got about half way though during two plus years of reading, but finally moved on.

The Visitors by Sally Beauman.
My bookstore was the ABC/BBC bookstore but the group closed down. The bookshop has been bought out by a local couple.

Mendelssohn Is On The Roof
Bought at an independent bookstore near Hampstead Heath. Not close enough to be a favourite store but a very memorable find. Harrowing but compelling read with a lot of black humour.

Tender is The Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald
June 29th Most re-read book
Wuthering Heights
Recently my most re-read book is any in the Harry Potter series. I have read The Hobbit many times and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
When I was younger I re-read The Horrible Histories books repeatedly and a book called The Rebel Fairy which I was obsessed with!

Paradise Lost. Read it at least once every three years.

June 30th
A slight cheats answer for me. I would save my kindle or whatever book I was reading at the time!

Probably Pride and Prejudice; but also Little Women
A book you would save if your house burnt down
Don't ask me to choose between my children! I'd pick my ereader: one thing, lots of titles!

Probably The Lord of the Rings, although maybe a few Georgette Heyer books might equal that (The Reluctant Widow, Friday's Child, Frederica)...

Oh dear! I would try saving the books I got from my mom's uncle (that were printed in 1910-1925) -- several Rafael Sabatini, a beautiful illustrated Arabian Nights, a couple of Alexandre Dumas... and a big family Bible.

I'll go with the biography of my grandfather; it's signed by the author to my father, passed down to me, and the book is long out of print and irreplaceable.
My great-great grandfather's Bible, given to him by his parents on his 8th birthday, has by tradition passed down to each firstborn son on his eighth birthday, and would have been my book to save except that my son, of course, now has it with him. I hope that if he answered this question, it would be his choice.
@everyman What lovely books as what a great tradition to have

There is a shop near me in Beverley which sells loads of very affordable penguin classics. I bought Wuthering Heights and Heart of Darkness from there.
My favourite place to browse for books is the second hand book stalls on Southbank and I've bought lots of books from there over the years
