Sarah Whiteman Rose wrote: "Who was your favorite couple..."
100% Maxon and America. Their relationship was so pure and Maxon was so awkward it made for a cute couple. I DREAM to have a relationship like theirs and have a guy like Maxon.

Samantha Campbell I just finished reading this series within a week. I loved it! I agree that I wish there were more books to keep it going!

Exactly! I have a love hate thing with how it ended. I wanted it to keep going but I am pretty happy with how it ended. I don't know.. I think it would be awesome as a TV show!!

NOOO! LEAVE!
Just Kidding. I liked them the first and second book but I once I met Maxon I was led astray.

I totally get what your saying but, just think about this for a second. Have you read Hunger Games, or Twillight?(not that I support any of those book, but thats another story). anyways here is the story line, tell me if you see some similarities

Hunger games: Gale (male best friend) falls in love with Katniss. Katniss (Female best friend) sort of falls in love with him, but is then swept off her feet by Peeta (boyfriend).

Twilight: Jacob (Male best friend) falls in love with Bella. Bella (Female best friend) sort of falls in love with him, but it then swept off her feet by Edward (boyfriend)

Selection: (A tiny bit different) Aspen (Male best friend, and sort of boyfriend) is super in love with America. America falls in love with him, but is then swept off her feet by Maxon (boyfriend)

see the similarities? its not that I don't like Maxon, its just that I began to feel bad for the best friends that spend their entire life building up a relationship and providing for their partner, only to be pussed aside for a random dude who never did anything.

I can get what your saying. In the beginning I liked Aspen, but something about Maxon's personality just drew me in more than Aspen's. I liked he's ending though too!

you dont really get to see that much of Aspen's personality. I think Maxon is a little to royal for my taste.

Ananya Yallapantula Absolutely adored the first 3 books in in the series as well as the novella...but I am not sure that I would ever read the rest of the series.
The best thing about these books is that it felt like watching a TV show...its weird, but tell me if you agree.

Lauren Me and my friends all loved it! We keep fighting over who gets maxon.......... but its always gonna be me who gets him

Sarah Whiteman I LOVE this discussion! I see the similarities. I haven't read the Hunger Games or Twilight believe it or not.. How did you guys feel about them? Are they a must read? Let me know. I also agree with the point made about the TV show. I did feel like each chapter was a new episode kind of thing. Maxon was pretty royal and uptight but I love how America loosened him up a bit. It was pretty adorable. I think aspen is too. His adoration for America is really sweet but we can't really judge him since we don't see much of his personality... You see a bit more in "The Heir" portion of the series.. Have you guys read that yet? What do you think about Erik?

Ok first thing. Don't read Twilight until you real, real enjoy vampire books. Personally I read it because it was like the first famous vampire book and I felt like I had too, but it was not worth it. I could hardly get through the first 100 pages, and when they added werwolves I died inside. Hunger games is better in my opinion but its message is really bad. Its fast pace and even though I started my reading thinking I wouldn't like it, I found i could not put the book down. The second and third one are not really worth it, but once you read the first, you commite to reading the rest. Also about The Heir, I loved Erik, I actually don't think I ever finished the book but I was definitly rooting for Erik. I think I just like the not so rich guys in all of the book since I liked Aspen better. When she got together with Henri, although he is really sweet, I was like "ummm, no, just no, he literally only knows two words of english, and you know no
Swedish."

Sarah Whiteman Max (Mace) wrote: "Sarah wrote: "I LOVE this discussion! I see the similarities. I haven't read the Hunger Games or Twilight believe it or not.. How did you guys feel about them? Are they a must read? Let me know. I ..."
YASS! I am so happy we are having such an awesome discussion!!! I will definitely take what you said about The Hunger Games and Twilight under consideration. I really don't like vampire books so I probably won't attempt it. The Selection is still my favorite series no matter how many other books I read. I will be 100% honest with you... In the beginning I liked Erik for the sole purpose that his name was the same as the Phantom's birth name in "The Phantom of the Opera" (Which is my favorite show/book besides The Selection.) I am a huge Broadway nerd so POTO is extremely important to me. But as the book matured and progressed I fell in love with Eikko's character and the way her loved Eadlyn. Just as I did with Maxon and America.

Oakward Sarah wrote: "have you read this series? what do you guys think? Let me know and we'll start some discussion!"

I do. I mean, sure there are some cliche parts, but the portrayal of America as a woman who's not just about dolling up her self kind of emphasizes the place that women occupies and should occupy in society. The same concept is illustrated by her daughter

I so agree with that! Now we must ask... Aspen or Maxon?

Oakward Sarah wrote: "Rose wrote: "I absolutely love this book and I've read the whole series and I really wish that this series would go on forever."

if it'll go on forever, it'll probably use up everything that's ever written in chick flicks, and then the series itself would turn sour.

Personally, my ideal type of relationship is one where your husband can also be your bestfriend and these kind of relationship trend repeated over and over and over again kind of clashes with my belief. In some ways I think it taints women's fidelity such that a woman can have a GUY best friend, and another man as a husband, while a guy can never have separate girls for each roles. It's sexist, and it sucks.

the portrayal of America as a girl who can have Aspen (as her boy best friend) and Maxon (as the boy friend). Like girls can have those but if guys do, it's a whole new story.

Max I'm not saying that I believe my point is not worthy, I have just noticed that some people get very annoyed when someone else points out a flaw in a book they love. Also, if anyone wants to rant about any random book, im the guy to talk to, book rants are like my favorite things in the world.

Totally, you should hear me rant about Twillight. People always call me anti-social because I like reading so much, but reading is totally social as well! The best is finding someone who loves the same book as you, but even better is finding someone who hates the same books as you.

Raleigh YAAAS! This is in my top three favorite book series list! I've read this whole series twice, once in English, and once in Spanish, and it is still sooooooo good!

Talea I love the entire series! Although America annoyed me at certain times in the book...she was just so indecisive. But Maxon is amazing and it all turned out great at the end. I still think it should have just been one single book rather than 3 small book! Anyways, one of fav series!

Ok, I don't hate him. I simply think that Aspen put a lot more thought into their relationship then Maxon. I also tend to like the "best friend/boyfriend" Character more, its just a personal preference.
