Hi I am wondering if you have a review format you follow when writing book reviews. How to do you rate them (star rating etc) and do you recap the synopsis in your review or not.

As an author what do you like to hear in reviews of your book?

For me (Book Blogger) I rate in the same sort of way you do on Goodreads on a scale of 1-5, 1 being the lowest. I always include the blurb and a link to goodreads for reference.

As far as what I write I don't have a format it varies by the book. I don't want to be too clinical.

I put the synopsis from the book at the top as it appears from the cover. For the review I just try to focus on points of the book, what I liked, what I didn't. I do put a link to goodreads at the top under the statistics, such as author name, genre, and star rating.

I find some reviews to lack in thoughts. I guess more of the "I liked this book" or "it was ok not something I will read again" but no why/how come.

I try not to give away the plot etc but like to comment on the flow of the story, characters (like or dislike), etc.

I understand what you mean but sometimes I've honestly read a book that I've had no strong feelings for one way or the other and I wind up just giving it a star rating with no detailed review but that's not something I would post on my blog or anything.

Anytime I review I do to the best of my ability try to explain what I liked or disliked and why.

I don't like to recap the book as that's what the synopsis is for and I don't like to be too formal either. So really I just go with my heart and tell people how I felt about a particular book but being sure to explain why I feel a certain way about it without giving away spoilers. I also use the 5 star rating system as it is on here.
