Dominique Kyle (dominiquekyle) Hi! I've just noticed my profile in one of my GR friends friend list, and it puts my location as 'Keswick, United Kingdom'. The only thing I've put in via my author dashboard is 'United Kingdom'. I don't live in Keswick and have never accessed my GR account on a device in that town so it's not via my IP address or something. I've never linked my Facebook account to my GR account - and I only list 'UK' on there too. I choose not to reveal my exact location due to important safeguarding issues and I am concerned that an exact location is coming up for me, even though it is wrong. I can't find anything to delete the 'Keswick' part (name of a small town in Cumbria). I'm very happy to have the 'UK' part. Any ideas?

Paul Francois | 36 comments While I can't stop the location tag, I can tell you why it might show a city other than where you live.

Most Internet location pings will stop at the location of the ISP you are using. So if the Internet provider has a hub in Keswick, that is what it will show.

I find it odd that GR would put that tag in friend's profiles when your author profile does not show that.

Dominique Kyle (dominiquekyle) Yes - I think it's odd too. I've checked my profile and it's definitely not in any of bits you can fill up and change and at the top of my own page it just shows 'UK'. And Facebook tends to place me at the nearest big city in completely the opposite direction to Keswick (until I delete it). I just don't think I've ever looked at my own little icon on someone else's page before so never noticed it. In addition, I've not accessed GR from any device with the 'geographical locator' function turned on except in Scotland....

Jaclyn (jaclyn_w) | 417 comments Your location is editable under your user profile settings and not under those of your author profile, which is likely why you were having trouble.

I've gone ahead and removed the specific location and left this as only United Kingdom. This may take a short while to reflect due to caching, but please let me know if you continue to have trouble!

Dominique Kyle (dominiquekyle) Thanks so much! I've checked my icon on someone else's page and it now says only 'United Kingdom' - that's a relief. Now I know about user profile settings I'll be more able to sort myself out...
