Don't believe we've any May babies in The Parlor. If I'm correct, maybe we could start thinking titles for the month. I'm pretty much open to anything (however, I think I'd like a break from fairies, trolls, woodland creatures just for the while lol) so long as the writing's good and it is in keeping with a mystery theme. But the majority rules so have at it, PI's. ;-)

One that comes to mind is Dinner Most Deadly (John Pickett Mysteries, #4) by Sheri Cobb South though I'd be willing to go with #1 in this series just to finally get to Dinner/Deadly with In Milady's Chamber (John Pickett Mysteries, #1) by Sheri Cobb South

But, we've just begun the search--

Dying In the Wool (Kate Shackleton, #1) by Frances Brody
Room with a Clue (Pennyfoot Hotel #1) by Kate Kingsbury
Tastes Like Murder (Cookies & Chance Mystery #1) by Catherine Bruns
The Deep End (The Country Club Murders #1) by Julie Mulhern
Bed, Breakfast and Bones (Ravenwood Cove Cozy Mystery #1) by Carolyn L. Dean

I've got a copy of Room with/Clue & have it on my TBR shelf.

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I got a few Pennyfoot Hotel Kindle books but only just got the 1st one in the series. I have been wanting to read it for a while and my library didn't have it.

message 6: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I just saw this on Facebook...I think it's a cozy. Looks interesting.

Under an English Heaven An Ellie Kent Mystery by Alice K. Boatwright

message 7: by Allison (new)

Allison | 905 comments I've read "Room with a Clue" and "Bed,Breakfast & Bones."

I have "Tastes like Murder" on my TBR so that might be a good selection...

"Dying in the Wool" seems like it "fits" our preferred English style books pretty good though.

Allison | 905 comments Just saw this from someones feed and it looks pretty good:

The Semester of Our Discontent (Lila Maclean Academic Mystery #1) by Cynthia Kuhn

Some good ones...gonna be hard to choose just one.

IMHO, I think running two titles per month is a good bet -- ex; this month's read, several did not care for the topic and left them out of participation. If we had two choices, perhaps the second could appeal to those not caring for Jackaby.

How 'bout we go back to a main title and a side read started later in month. Also, one wouldn't have to wait for main title to move along in order to participate. One could jump in both titles if desired. Also, as it is hard to pick just one, our faves would have a better chance at being picked. And we don't have to participate in both or neither if we choose not to.

message 10: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I'm all for the main and side reads. You have all posted great suggestions. Whichever book(s) I can't get from the library, or don't already have, I'll get from Amazon....since I just won a $25 gift card!!! Whoo whoo!!!! I entered a giveaway on the Booklover's Bench site and they just emailed me today saying I won! Of course, I'm buying books with my winnings!

Win-win, Nicole! You are lucky at this stuff. ;-) Good on you!

Yes, I like two books per mo. for reasons stated above. Let's try it again in May. Now to pick just two. lol

Anymore noms to toss in? Let's hear from The PI's so we all get a chance to opine, participate in May's discussion.

Jill, J, Pghfan, Nicole, Allison...thank you! LM...anyone else?

How many PI's do we have participating in May? Head count? So far it looks like we've Nicole, Allison, Moi participating in May's read. Anymore?

message 14: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I think we have a good list to work with.
This might be really off the beaten path, but has anyone read this one? I like this author's other series Delivering the Truth (Quaker Midwife Mystery, #1) by Edith Maxwell

Never read it, Nicole. Some bibliophile I turned out to be, huh? lol I'm a film buff too and am pulled in several different ways. Only so much time to do all the things we want.

As to move vote along, I will go with any of the listed titles ('cept for Quaker one at this time) but desperately want Dinner Most Deadly as the side read. Or at the very least, the first in the John Pickett series.

Can we get to voting, PI's? It's already the 23rd. and we need time to obtain copies of the pick.

Tina (tinacz) | 6103 comments Mod
Allison, Nicole, me...and hopefully some others, if there are only three, should we run the May discussion or wait 'til June? I'll pull it if there are only two. That makes no sense.

message 20: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments I don't mind either way. If there's only 3 of us then maybe just one selection? Hopefully there will be more!

message 21: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinacz) | 6103 comments Mod
Hopefully, Nicole. But, if only two, I'll go off and read something on my own. Maybe post about it here just to keep The Parlor lights on.

Hmm? We could also just pick our own poison and post about it; anyone wanting to join can. But first, let's see if any more PI's join in.

message 22: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments Ok! I'm up for anything.
Did anyone read the article on Goodreads about "How Not to Kill a Bookclub"? or something like that. One suggestion was to have all the members read different books then talk about each one (without spoilers I'm assuming).

message 23: by PugMom (new)

PugMom (nicoleg76) | 2014 comments On a side note that has nothing to do with anything...if any of you review books on here...do you keep getting notifications that people are "liking" your reviews? I just got 13 likes on the last review I posted. It just seems odd since nobody ever has liked my reviews before LOL

Like minds, Nicole...I'd like to try it. How about May's Discussion? Everyone read mystery of their choice and post about it. Could keep it under main May Read thread....or should we assign a different thread heading for each one? We could do that as there are so few of us that we'd not be over run with threads. And if we see one we want to opine on, we just go in and post. Anyone want to try it? We could start May 1st. Hook or crook! I'm game! I already have my pick. lol

Ian | 20 comments Hello,
My name is Ian, I live in the UK, and I'm a recovering Bookaholic. :D
I hope you don't mind that Nicole gave me a link to the group.
My main interests are in Cozies, Golden Age murder/mysteries, Historical mysteries, but I do delve every so often into some more grittier crime novels/series. At the moment, I'm loving the C. S. Harris Sebastian St. Cyr mysteries.
I have been a bibliophile for 40 years. Starting with Nancy Drew, of course. Then going into murder/mysteries when I was 14, when I discovered Patricia Wentworth's Miss Maud Silver mysteries. And have been hooked ever since.
My collection is in the 5,000 plus mark.
Thank you for allowing me to join your group.

Room With A Clue would also work for me.

So we have everyone read their own with three votes or Room With A Clue with two votes.

Anyone else? Please weigh in by Thurs. so we can obtain copies.

message 35: by Ian (new)

Ian | 20 comments Room With a Clue is fine with me, as I have a physical and a Kindle copy.
Also, It's not been so long ago, that I read and reviewed Kate's prequel to the series...A Perilous Promise (only in Kindle/ebook format).
Which makes me want to revisit Pennyfoot Hotel and all the characters from the beginning.

Allison | 905 comments Glad to see you, Ian.

I've read Room with a Clue but I could re-read it as it's been quite a few years since I read it. I don't really remember much so it'll be "new" to me.

Yikes LOL We're about tie with everyone reading their own or Room With A Clue. I have to count them all up and see what we come up with. If J and Jill would chime in we might have a tie breaker in them.

I'll post results in just a bit.

Oh no!! That has to terrible for you. I took painkillers after surgery a few years ago and they didn't work. The nurse in the hospital looked at me like I was lying!!! UMM It still hurt!!!!!! Gimme something else!!!!!

So sorry for your challenges, Jill. Please be mended real soon. But I feel your pain. Have sore knees, hips and some other stuff going on. If I could, I'd get the knee injections where they insert a gel, a cushion 'tween the knee joints which with age, the natural stuff wears away. Or natural hormone injections. All I need is to win the lotto. Then I'll come for The PI's and we'll go soak up the sun somewhere fun. Come back when you are able.
