Siya (siyak_) Let me know what you think of Rick Riodan's books. If you like the mythology or not. I want to read his books but I think the mythology puts me off.

message 2: by Andreea (new)

Andreea | 1 comments I have only read the ”Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series, and I absolutely loved it! The series holds a special place in my heart, since after ”The Last Olympian” I started loving reading. I have read the first book because of the title - I mean ”The Lighting Thief” is an interesting one.
I have always been interested in mythology, but whenever I tried to read a book about it, I always ended up being confused and just - disappointed. There were so many names (of characters and places) for me to remember, that I just could not keep up with anything at all. I was afraid that this series is going to be the same, but no. It made me understand and love Greek mythology.
So don't worry about the mythology part. It is easy to understand everything and Rick Riordan's way of explaining it is funny and original.
I hope you enjoy his books! ^^

megan (lovemegan) | 4 comments I would say definitely give them a chance! Don't worry if the mythology seems daunting, Rick writes in a way that's really easy to understand. The original pjo books are definitely the best in my opinion, but ricks entire mythological universe is still amazing!

message 4: by Siya (new)

Siya (siyak_) Thanks! I will definitely read one of his books. I will probably read the Lightning Thief but I don't think I'm going to read them all. My sister has all the books in that series so I can read them all if I enjoy the first one.

I am also interested in reading The first book in the Heroes of Olympus series, the Lost Hero. My sister has that one too so I will probably read that too.

The Trails of Apollo, I think it's called, seems interesting too, so let me know if any of you have read it and what you think about it.

Zoe | 3 comments I love Greek mythology so the Percy Jackson series really drew me in right from the start but I also found that I had to work a bit more to fall in love with the series because I only got into it when I was older. Kind of like with Harry Potter, the younger you are when you are first introduced to it, the more you like it when you're older.
But I absolutely love the books and, even if you're not a big fan of mythology, Rick doesn't let the mythology interfere with the main plot like most other mythology based books.
You should absolutely try them out. The pjo series is amazing and I absolutely loved it!

Okay thanks! I hear people talking about the Percy Jackson series, but, not much about the Heroes of Olympus or some of his other series.

Maria Adaway (maria-valerie) I've only read the first two Percy Jackson series but Ruck Riodon has such a unique and beautiful (and hilarious) writing style.

At first, I was put off by the mythology but he incorporates it really well. It's never boring and the way he mixes it with modern day society is very interesting.

That being said, it is for younger readers so the language is quite basic and the story lacks detail in certain are such as plot and setting. However, definitely give it a go because the books are just ENJOYABLE and FUN

Thanks so much! Your comment helped me alot and I feel like I can relate to what you're saying. And from reading the synopsis of some of his books, I can tell that he does mix the mythology with modern day society, which always interested me. Thanks again for replying and giving your thoughts on his books.

hedda (heddiling) | 7 comments His books are all great, but Magnus Chase as a character is too much like Percy Jackson, so that series is a little too familiar-feeling.

message 10: by Tasya (new)

Tasya (giselatasya) | 264 comments I love his books! Mythology is one of my weak point in books so I've read a lot of them. What makes his books different is he tried to include minor deity from the mythology too, like the wind god, river god, etc. The characters are also awesome :D Although the story is formulaic in each books, he always manage to put some twist into the formula. Sadly, the Egyptian one (Kane Chronicles) didn't really work for me and I don't know why, but I'm really excited to try Magnus Chase (it's the only book of his that I haven't read) (yep I'm a hardcore Riordan fan) :D

adorkylibrarian | 12 comments I know I'm really late but I wanted to inform/warn you! While i would definitely give The Lightning Thief a shot, the Lost Hero series and the Trials of Apollo series are spinoffs with many of the same characters from the Olympians series and if you read them before finishing the first 5 books, it will ruin the ending of the previous series. All events happen in chronological order and are referenced in later books in different series because they are still a part of the same world.

So the only way to read them without ruining the other books for yourself is to read
The Lightning Thief books 1-5
The Lost Hero books 1-5
and then Trials of Apollo books 1-x

The Magnus Chase series is from the perspective of one of the origional character's (Annabeth) cousin. So while there is a bit of referencing in the first book, there isnt much and it doesnt ruin anything.

The Egyptian series is pretty much entirely separate, though not as popular. (even though i still enjoyed it)

samxmarie | 69 comments I didn't read any of the perch Jackson books.
I bought The heroes of Olympus book set at Walmart for $30. I read the first 4, I will read the last book soon when I think I'm ready for the feels ( XD)
Anyways, I don't think there should be an order on reading these books. Just make sure you understand what your reading. I would definitely recommend this series to you or any of Rick Riordan books.

message 13: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Roxane Definitely give them a try. I really liked the first two, but after the third I was obsessed. I binged the rest of the series, and am now midway through bingeing the Heroes of Olympus series (definitely read Percy Jackson first as there are spoilers in HoO). I'm completely obsessed and plan to read the Magnus chase and trials of apollo as soon as I finish these

message 14: by allison! (new)

allison! (allison12) I have only read a few of Rick Riordian's books, but before I read them, I was definitely in your place. I have never been a big mythology fan, but I decided to give Percy Jackson a try, and I'm glad I did. They are very good, and I can't wait to read the next one!

Unknown poet (Anna) (unknown_poetanna) Too many. I read one and it's okay, I don't really read mythology

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I never loved mythology until Percy Jackson. All Rick Riordan's books are A-MA-ZING! His series Percy Jackson, Heroes Of Olympus, Kane Chronicles, Trials Of Apollo, and Magnus Chase are my most favorite books of all the books I've read.

message 17: by Gala (new)
