jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I finished my book - How to Lose a Duke in Ten Days (An American Heiress in London, #2) by Laura Lee Guhrke . I enjoyed it well enough, but it got too sweet at the end. At least it led me to do a little research, and we all learned something about Dirty Bertie. ☺

I think I should get an extra badge for providing such educational entertainment.

Lanelle | 4021 comments I was able to finish two books today, Loving Miss Darcy (Brides of Pemberley, #2) by Nancy Kelley and The Honorable Marksley by Sherry Lynn Ferguson .

Both were easy and quick Regency romances, just what I was in the mood for today. Nothing special about either one.

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I finished Fates and Furies Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff and rated it 5 stars. I really enjoyed this book; the author writes well and gives a big twist to the plot in the second part when we see things from another character's viewpoint.

I also finished The Stars Are Fire by Anita Shreve The Stars Are Fire and enjoyed it. I like the historical aspect and the character relationships in the novel. I also enjoy novels about strong women like the MC.

I think you deserve a special badge for entertainment, too!! I learned so much during our topper!

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11460 comments Finished The Ex. I was cleverly manipulated to grow doubts about "the truth". Should have realized there are always two "EX-es" in any broken relationship.

Hopping off to bed.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I thought the chair photo your shared, Jmom, was actually quite attractive. I was flummoxed tho by looking at it as a piece of art, and then looking at it and trying briefly to figure out (unsuccessfully) the configuration of Bertie and two women using it for a sexual experience.

Casceil | 2728 comments I finished Smugglers & Scones (Moorehaven Mysteries, #1) by Morgan C. Talbot Smugglers & Scones. I'm still deciding what I think about it. It had some great moments and also some stupid ones.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished my book. Cold Kiss Cold Kiss (Cold Kiss, #1) by Amy Garvey .

I thought I was not going to like this very YA story when I first started it, but by the time I really got into it, it turnrd out to be a very intriguing story. Some wild magic powers and a not very well thought out and emotional decision are the root of the story. Yeah, teen love and all that. I bought this on an ebook sale and it has been sitting in my Nook library for several years. I'm finally glad to be able to put it in my READ shelf.

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments Finished A Pocket Full of Rye A Pocket Full of Rye (Miss Marple, #7) by Agatha Christie . Although I like Poirot better than Miss Marple, this is a good Miss Marple mystery. I can usually count on Agatha Christie.

Emily (emilserv) | 490 comments Morning :)

I read The Selection and gave it 3 stars. The book was a quick read, and I enjoyed it even though the plot is fairly predictable. Even so, I'll be reading the next one.

The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass

message 18: by Lori Z (new)

Lori Z | 2089 comments I finished my book A Nose for Hanky Panky (A Granite Cove Mystery, #1 ) by Sharon Love Cook . It was a quick, easy read, your typical cozy. It was kind of predictable and actually reminded me of the Lucy Stone Mysteries. Overall, I gave it 3 stars and will probably continue with the series, eventually.

message 19: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11460 comments Finished The Kryptonite Kid, a short book mentioned by Neil Gaiman in his The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction.

A chronological series of letters written by two boys to Superman.

Annerlee | 2871 comments Star Sand
Star Sand by Roger Pulvers
I read this and gave it 3 stars. It' s set on a small Japanese island towards the end of WW2 and is the diary of a girl who is looking after a Japanese and US soldier who have deserted and are hiding in a cave. very thought provoking. War is so sadly pointless.. I'm sdtill trying to finish my 2nd book so will review properly later on

Kristie | 19171 comments I finished my book, You Are a Badass. You Are a Badass How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero I thought it was really good. There wasn't too much that I didn't know, partly because of my career choice, but I like the way she brought it together and made it accessible. I may listen to it again sometime.

message 22: by Trudy (new)

Trudy (trudyan) | 1779 comments I finished They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky The True Story of Three Lost Boys from Sudan by Benson Deng .

This is the first-person story of three of South Sudan's "lost boys". Aged five to seven when their journey began, they travelled, along with thousands of other young boys, hoping for relative safety in Ethiopia and then Kenya. It is amazing that any of the boys survived, with the constant dangers they encountered. I found their story incredible and heartbreaking. This was a quick read.

Bang on time... I hope!
An excellent read. I need to read more by this Heinlein chap. I loved the style and the premise. I also loved Pete the cat, who was quite a character, and I'm so happy he was well looked after in the end. 4 stars for this one.

message 25: by KimeyDiann (last edited Apr 23, 2017 09:27AM) (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I managed to finish The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto A Novel by Mitch Albom .

I gave the book 5 stars! It is narrated by Music much the same way that < insert book title that just left my brain here > was narrated by Death. There are also short chapters told in a one-sided conversation style from people that personally knew the main character, Frankie Presto. I almost deducted a star because I didn't enjoy the style of these short chapters, but the book was so good I just couldn't do it. Maybe 4.5 stars instead of 5.

This book was the tale of fictional musician Frankie Presto's life and death. It almost reminds me of Forrest Gump in how Frankie is involved with so many different pivotal moments in history. Mostly musical history for Frankie though. As soon as I finished the book I had to look up some of the songs and artists that were referenced in the book. I discovered that Mitch Albom actually managed to have some of the fictional songs in the book recorded professionally and there is a whole album/soundtrack you can purchase that goes with it.

message 27: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Almost forgot to report my completed book! Wouldn't want to miss my badge! It was Monster. It was a fun read and wasn't entirely predictable as most "unlikely heroes out to save the world as we know it" kinds of stories are. Loved the philosophy woven in to keep us living in the moment.

Poongothai (poongsa) | 483 comments I read A Little Bit Wicked (Last Man Standing, #1) by Victoria Alexander , a typical historical romance. It was my first book by Victoria Alexander. It was too predictable and nothing much interesting happens. I rated it 2.5 stars for some of the funny dialogues by the Aunt character

message 30: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Gah, I've only just got around to thinking about reporting my book. I hope it's not too late?

I read The Wrath and the Dawn (The Wrath and the Dawn, #1) by Renee Ahdieh

I haven't added it to my 'read' shelf yet because I'm still undecided about my rating. I enjoyed the story around it all; the mystery, the characters etc but I wasn't a fan of the romance part. Still mulling it over .....

message 31: by Kristie, Moderator (new)
