Angie's readathon spot

Unfortunately, I'll be stuck behind my desk for another 3-4hrs, so I hope I can make the most of the evening (UCT+1, here).
As I'm not expecting to actually finish an entire book, due to my late start in this readathon, I'll continue reading the French book I just began:Intrigue à Versailles. However since it is in a foreign language (I'm hoping to improve my French by reading more French originals), I know I'll only manage small chuncks at a time. Or I might start a new crime novel, OR Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for fun. I'll see what I'm in the mood for later.
Hope you're all having a great time, readers!

Bonne Chance~

I'm currently in a deckchair in the garden, my pile of books beside me, and I'm very much enjoying the first day of sunshine after a week of constant rain.
Still another 3 hours until the end of the read-a-thon, and I'm going to spent them reading Harry Potter.

No, I don't have a reading list as such... I want to finish the book I'm currently reading on my kindle Jacob's Room is Full of Books: A Year of Reading. It's an enjoyable read about books and reading in general. I'm on page 60/266, so I should be able to finish it within the first hours of the RAT. (hope that will give me a boost)
Other than that, there are plenty of books on my shelf which I haven't read yet.... The Essex Serpent... All the Light We Cannot See or Lincoln in the Bardo among them... i'll see what I'm in the mood for later on...

Kick-off in my timezone is at 2pm. Still need to run some errands this morning, but it’ll be all the more fun to relax and read this afternoon, when all is done. Yeah!
Am very much looking forward to the whole event!

Same here. Waiting for my reading buddy so we can go grocery shopping. Hopefully I'll be all set to start at 2pm.

Oh, a reading buddy, that's cool. I've never tried that... Not many readaholics like me in my circle of friends...hehe. Hope you enjoy yourselves!

was able to complete more tasks than expected, but managed only one bingo (first row across) :-/
Lots of fun though!

My first read for this read-a-thon is Jacob's Room is Full of Books: A Year of Reading by Susan Hill I'm starting on page 60/266.
I'll also be digging into my first snack ( aka late lunch), which is a piece of baguette and some Italian salami.

I love reading books about books and reading too! It's so pleasing! That looks like a good book!

Thanks Liora! I'm enjoying the whole read-a-thon experience so far. I just wish I could read and check posts on here at the same time. :-)

Thank you Camilla. I'm sure that I will be able to finish that one book till the end of the RAT...but I really don't know how much more I'll be able to read. I somewhat misjudged my actual reading time today :-)

Am still reading, however I don't know how much longer I'll be able to keep my eyes open tonight, so I thought I'd better make a quick update.

During that time I came across two quotes that I loved (from Jacob's Room is Full of Books: A Year of Reading), so I'm just jotting them down here...
" One book leads to another is the rule of life.." (p.189)
"We all have massive gaps in our reading which is good, we need gaps - for the pleasure of filling them." (p.202)

Sun, noon.
Finished my first book!! Hurrah!

Finished Jacob's Room is Full of Books: A Year of Reading --- 206 pages

One week to go, till April 6th, yay!!
2019 started with a bit of a reading slump for me. Only occasionally did I manage to pick up a book and I hardly read for more than 20-30 min. at a time, thus making veeery slow progress. So to get back into the swing of it, I decided to give the pre-readathon a go.
However, this coming week I have a lot of stuff on, so I'm half expecting to not make the 24hr mark. But I'll try to squeeze in as much reading-time as possible. It'll be a very good warm-up for the actual readathon on Saturday.

1)What fine part of the world are you reading from today? --- I'm in the South of Germany.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? --- I'm most looking forward to finishing my current read: Dan Brown, Inferno

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? --- all of them!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! --- Today I went to the local library for the first time in maybe 5+ years! It's not that I don't like libraries as such, but I own too many books I haven't read anyway, so I try to read them first.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today?--- I'm going to stay off social media more. It's such fun, but also distracting.

Yes, you're absolutely right about the library! I kept thinking, 'why haven't I been back earlier?'. I will definiately make an effort to go more often.

So I've whittled down my reading choices to the following books:
Dan Brown, Inferno

Ian McEwan, On Chesil Beach,

D. H. Lawrence, Il Duro

graphic novels:
it's a choice between Rutu Modan, The Property

or
Marjane Satrapi, Persepolis,

audiobook:
Mavis Cheek, Janice Gentle Gets Sexy,

This readathon I wanted to read only physical books, so no Kindle allowed. I also wanted to make a point of reading books I own, but I had to make concessions for the two graphic novels I borrowed from the library, because I don't own any and I wanted to include them in the bingo. The audiobook is chosen because of bingo, too, as I'm not a huge fan of audiobooks.

Ok, I may have gone a bit OTT on snacks and food, but readathon for me is also a time to indulge in some naughty nibbles.
Kick-off in my time-zone was 14:00h, that's why I only planned for 2 proper meals, really.
Dinner: Lasagna and salad
Breakfast: pastry and either grapes or grapefruit.
Snacks: I had a lovely chocolate tartlet earlier, but there is also Haribo, Toblerone (white), biscuits, crisps and grapes.
Drinks: coke, bitter lemon, rhubarb-lemonade, prosecco, tea, coffee, water.

Oh where does all the time go??? I hoped to be able to read more, but interacting with people on here, preparing food etc. takes up time too. But all in all, it's not too bad. Any time reading, is time well spent. :-)
