Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments I'm looking to get a book box with a new YA release and some book goodies included (shipping to a US address), but a lot of the websites are a bit confusing and don't have a lot of 'past crate examples'. I've looked at a couple unboxing videos on youtube and I'm not sure which one to get! Do any of you have good experiences with a book crate and have some advice/suggestions??

I was really happy with the Australian YA crate: http://theyachronicles.com.au/ NOT JUST for the reasons above, but they had decent stuff in there.

Also, I don't think anybody ever regrets getting Owl Post or whatever it's called. That's always superb.

Kat | 334 comments I'm also from Australia so I don't have actual experience (because, yes, the shipping cost from US to Australia is ginormous) but I've heard a lot of good things about Owlcrate, Illumicrate, Uppercase and Litjoy which are all US-based. Owlcrate, Litjoy and Uppercase are all monthly ones whereas Illumicrate is a quarterly subscription. I'm pretty sure if you visit any of their websites or maybe Instagram as well, they show their past crate examples. Nonetheless, I hope you find what you're looking for!

K. (keiiksm) | 14 comments I'd purchased from Fairy Loot (they're UK based) twice; I'm from Thailand, so shipping price costed a fortune, but both were so worth the money. Definitely recommend :-)

Vera Brook (vera_brook) Where is the Like button when you need it? I want to *like* this whole thread.

My daughter is 12 and she's been asking for a book crate, and she makes it sound like magic. We love books, so I'm considering it for her birthday in August. A box full of books? Yes, please! :)

And now I'm a YA author myself, I'd love to get my book into one of those services... What a great way to say hello to new readers. I'll have to look into that. If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears. (And thanks in advance.)

Rebecca (readwrebecca) OwlCrate is FANTASTIC! They have a past crates option for both OwlCrate and OwlCrate Junior. I've been receiving the boxes since the 3rd one...24 total! Their customer service is speedy, their goodies are fantastic and useful, and their book selections are fantastic! I have an OwlCrate bookshelf as well if you're interested to see what they've picked that way. :)

If you want to discover book boxes, try looking on Instagram. The minute someone gets one, they love to upload a picture of it up for others to see. I follow people that get sponsored by subscription boxes and they receive them for free as well as a 10% discount code to give to their followers if they would like to order one. Owlcrate is a popular one. :)

Mehsi I would love a crate, but sadly no options for me (my country has few book crates, there is only one book crate that I may find interesting, but it only has Dutch (translated) books. Bleh. Shipping from the US is a bit too expensive).

But I did hear a lot about owl crate, and I see a lot of my American bookfriends praising that one to the heavens. I know that if I could get that one I would do it in a heartbeat.

Emily (emily_woodal) Can anyone tell me...with owl crate, do they only ship one book each shipment or multiples? Do you pick these books or are they auto selected?

Thanks!

The theme is selected months in advance, and they choose the book. Everyone gets the same book, and there's only been two times where they shipped two books (shipments included the theme book and a classic)

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments I've been thinking about OwlCrate and FairyLoot for awhile now. Haven't been able to determine how much FairyLoot will cost to ship to my address because checkout is only available when it's not sold out- and the one time purchase and the one month subscription always seem to be sold out. I hope I'll prevail before next month's box sells out! FairyLoot seems to have a good book selection and lots of candles (I adore candles) but if it's too expensive ($40+) I think I'll go with owl crate.

Thanks to Rebecca for letting me see your OwlCrate Bookshelf!

Of course! If you're in the US it doesn't cost much, I think $36 including shipping and handling. I know FairlyLoot is more because they're based in London.

There's others too, like Illumicrate and UnicornCrate, but those are both expensive and Illumicrate is from Australia I'm pretty sure.

Looks like you and me both got it wrong because it says on their website that it comes from the UK.

Yeah! I've got a spreadsheet for crate prices to get to my doorstep and FairyLoot is the only one I haven't been able to get a estimate for yet.

Crates on the List:

OwlCrate
FairyLoot
Illumicrate
LitJoy Crate
BookLoot
SpeareCraft
Uppercase

I'd heard about UnicornCrate but May was it's first month and I wanted to see what the first box looked like before considering. It looked pretty amazing and of course the June one is already sold out!

message 16: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (readwrebecca) Yeah I thought UnicornCrate looked cool, but it's more expensive than OwlCrate and it's the same thing, except for always will be fantasy.

message 17: by Farren (new)

Farren (mmmcookies) | 302 comments I just got OwlCrate this month for the first time because I predicted the book in advance and asked my boyfriend for a subscription for my birthday. He didn't understand how it worked so he only got me one month, which sucks because June looks amazing! May's box was good: I got Eliza and Her Monsters (which I was dying for), a Deadpool (full size) funko, although there were 7 random ones you could receive, one of those multicolor clicky pen things, a Wonder Woman candle, a couple buttons, and a sample from a comic book that sounds really cool. I think it was worth the money and I'm about to purchase next month's book tonight.

For anyone interested, OwlCrate has the previous 2017 boxes, including May's, on sale for the next week because they have leftovers. I'm buying March's box for sure, it was less than 15 bucks I believe. The contents of each box are listed so you won't have to check youtube or instagram.

I got Deadpool too! And yeah I saw they had them on sale! I had all the OwlCrates already, so my mom bought me one of the Jrs

Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments I bought UnicornCrate's July Box and will try OwlCrate in the future for comparison! Owlcrate is cheaper for me, but there seems to be a lot more thought put into UnicornCrate's items and I am a sucker for candles to match my books! I'll update when I receive the July box!
