James (ObservantRaven) | 37 comments I'm having a hard time trying to decide what book to get next with my audible credit as there are so many books I want to read. I have 2 credits but one has been reserved for Prince Of Fools but don't know about the other, the books I am trying to decide between are:

Storm Front
Thief's Magic
Steelheart
Warbreaker
The Black Prism
The Thousand Names
Among Thieves
The Emperors Blades
Wool

What books would you recommend that I read?

David Sven (gorro) | 1582 comments Storm Front. The Dresden books. Narrated by Spike from Buffy. The best way to consume Dresden if you are looking at getting into the series.

Walter Spence (walterspence) | 707 comments I've listened to Storm Front, so if you're in the mood for urban fantasy/paranormal, that's a good choice.

If you're more in the mood for dystopian sf, then I'd recommend Wool.

Storm Front would be my top choice, but I've listened to both Emperor's Blades and Thousand Names and both of those were enjoyable.

ladymurmur | 151 comments Among Thieves. It is a fantastic read, and I've heard only raves about the audiobook.

message 6: by Darren (new)

Darren If you can't choose one, you don't really want any of them.

Alternatively, you want to read all of them equally, and are looking for something to cause one to rise to the top of the list. :-)

The list looks fantastic to me. Not a bad one in the bunch. The ones I've read I've enjoyed, and the rest are all on my TBR as well.

Thane | 476 comments If it were me, I'd see which ones are already available from the library and eliminate them from the list.

Joanna Chaplin | 1175 comments Of the ones I've read, I enjoyed them all except Steelheart, which is a pity, because I've enjoyed just about everything else I've read from Sanderson.

Derek Knox (snokat) | 274 comments They're all good. Just one thing about the Dresden files audio books, the first ten or so were originally done by a small recording company, before they went out of business and were taken over by one of the major companies. So the audio isn't the greatest. Some background noise, etc, stuff that the big recording houses filter out. Can be a little distracting, especially if listening on good earphones.

James (ObservantRaven) | 37 comments Just realised that I forgot to include the iron druid series in the list. What does everyone think about them?

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments Wool! I wouldn't recommend the sequels as much but Wool definitely.

Funny you ask. I'm listening to the latest one right now. It just came out today. I woke up at 5:30 and immediately downloaded it. I love this series in audio. I have only read one of the novellas in text. Luke Daniels is amazing in this series. You can't go wrong with the Iron Druid Chronicles.

Don't spend a credit on it though. If you get the Kindle edition for $6.28 (with two bonus stories), you can get the Audible edition for $3.99. That's $10.27 for both--less than the cost of a credit. I highly recommend checking for Whispersync deals before using a credit at Audible. You can find a lot of books where the combined Kindle/Audible price is less than a credit.

Check out the section on Amazon where you can get a free classic and the matching audiobook is only 99 cents. Get Dracula. It's an amazing production with some fabulous narrators. I've never been able to get through that book, but the audiobook is fantastic.

I try to save my credits for new releases. Older books often go on sale.

Don't use a credit. The Audible edition is only $1.99 if you buy the Kindle edition first.

Keep in mind that you don't need a Kindle to buy Kindle books. You don't even need to plan to read the Kindle book. You can buy it just to get the low-priced audiobook. For Whispersync, you just have to remember to buy the Kindle book first, then the Audible edition.

Henry (iskander) I really want to read a book. The only problem is that I cannot for the life of me remember who it is written by, nor what it is called. I was wondering if I gave some details if anyone could help out? It's military science fiction, written by a female author (I'm pretty sure it is anyway), has someone on the cover holding a laser sword (not a lightsabre), a bit like Corrin Horn from I, Jedi, and has officers in the story know as centurions. If anyone could help that would be really good, as this has been driving me mad!

Michele | 1154 comments Henry, you might want to start a fresh topic for your search. Also check the group here on Goodreads called "What's the name of that book?" Lots of people there, including librarians, who help find lost books for people.

Henry (iskander) Thanks Michele, I'll do that.
