Blurb - Once upon a time, in a land blighted by terror, there was a very clever boy.
The people thought the boy could save them, so they opened their gates and sent him out into the world.
To where the monsters lived.
I had enjoyed the first book and this one was no different. I felt that the teen autistic main character in this one, Stephen, was rather similar to the main character, Melanie, from the first novel in the way he was used to advance the plot. Just like Melanie, Stephen cares for only one person in the world. There were other discoveries that seem to take the same trajectory as the first novel but it was still original in other areas to make up for that. This novel seems to take place prior to The Girl with All the Gifts . The epilogue (view spoiler)[connects this book with the older one and I thought it gave a nice closure to the series.
