Meaning behind the story about the unclaimed baggage store

This was the most puzzling story within this book, I reread it multiple times and never seem to get the ending. Anyone have any insight?

From what I recall the guy was going to propose to his girlfriend while they were out of town but was convinced she already knew he was going to ask. That idea annoyed him on top of the fact they were going to the unclaimed baggage store, somewhere he really didn't want to go. While there he thinks about his relationship and decides to break up with her. He does this by symbolically leaving his bag in the store. After they leave he runs back in to 'reclaim his baggage.' I figured the moral of the story was "hey, everyone carries baggage in a relationship, don't let that mess up a good thing."
