Also the book was tan/white/yellowish color and a review on it said the female main character was like a female Holden Caulfield/the next Holden Caulfield (from Salinger's Catcher In the Rye)

It might've said it was either a coming of age story for the lady or that she was Holden Caulfield as a female adult

I don't think it was a young adult book, more in the adult range

My local library. On the shelf where the books that were for sale sat. All sorts of books were on the shelf, different genres and different publishing years, some not recent

I think it had a view of a lady from behind her and she might've been wearing a hat and I think it said it took place somewhere in the 1920-1950 time frame. It was a simple cover

Or italicized font. The cover was very simple from what I remember and didn't have much color just an off white

And I don't think Nancy's book Molly was it, it was more along the lines of the female Holden Caulfield type character was the main character and I don't think summary mentioned anything about another girl or a friendship between the two

@ Kris: definitely either this year or last year. It was a very simple White off white color for the background on the cover with a picture of a lady and a Violet color for the font

I definitely don't think it was the Matilda book

The female character depicted on the book cover wasnt a black shaded outline like on Matilda Savitch and she was more of an adult female Holden Caulfield than a teen/young girl. So now that I think about it it might've not been a coming of age story. Somehow when I looked at the book I got a Scott Fitzgerald vibe from the cover maybe it was the fancy font

It was like a memoir I think or a journal/diary entry format. It definitely described her life story and I think it may/may not have been coming of age only she was a more cynical version of Holden Caulfield and the time frame it took place in was somewhere in 1920-1960 time frame. I was of the assumption it was published around 1990-2010. (There were books of all different publishing dates and authors for sale with it; for examples I saw memoir of a geisha and the color purple and twilight by Stephanie meyer for sale near it as well) The book was paperback and looked sleek and new with violet purple font on the cover/back and an off white/white/tan color for the background

All of these details would have been nice with the FIRST post, not doled out bit by bit.....

You're not thinking of The Bell Jar are you? It has been repeatedly compared to Catcher in the Rye and the main character, Esther, has been called a female Holden Caulfield. There have been hundreds if not thousands of editions, plus there are lots of books about The Bell Jar and some of them seem kind of close to your description.

Nah, if I remember, the font was smaller and the lady's features weren't that distinguishable. Also, the female name of the title or the authors name had a E, R, J, or G at the beginning of it.

There was some light purple colors with the tan/white on the front and I think it was described as a feminist-ish book

Note: I remember the cover reminds me of some of the covers by Kaye Gibbons although I don't think she wrote this one
