Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Also the book was tan/white/yellowish color and a review on it said the female main character was like a female Holden Caulfield/the next Holden Caulfield (from Salinger's Catcher In the Rye)

message 2: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments It might've said it was either a coming of age story for the lady or that she was Holden Caulfield as a female adult

The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth

The blurb of some editions may have included this quote from a review:

"If Holden Caulfield had been a gay girl from Montana, this is the story he might have told-it's funny, heartbreaking, and beautifully rendered" Curtis Sittenfeld, bestselling author of PREP and AMERICAN WIFE

message 4: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments I don't think it was a young adult book, more in the adult range

Where did you see it? Bookstore, library, Goodreads, other site? When did you see it?

message 6: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments My local library. On the shelf where the books that were for sale sat. All sorts of books were on the shelf, different genres and different publishing years, some not recent

The protagonist of Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers has been described as female Holden Caulfield. It's a coming of age novel.

True Believers by Kurt Andersen has "a ’60s-era female Holden Caulfield...."

How the Light Gets In has "an edgy female Holden Caulfield"

message 10: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments I think it had a view of a lady from behind her and she might've been wearing a hat and I think it said it took place somewhere in the 1920-1950 time frame. It was a simple cover

message 12: by Adele (new) - added it

Adele | 1429 comments This cover seems to fit: Mathilda Savitch by Victor Lodato

Publisher's Weekly says: "She's a metaphysical Holden Caulfield for the terrifying present day." and The Toronto Star says, "a female Holden Caulfield with a dollop of Nancy Drew"

message 13: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Thanks for looking guys. I think the font on the book is more like a violet purple with some purple

message 14: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments With some Cursive *

message 15: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Or italicized font. The cover was very simple from what I remember and didn't have much color just an off white

message 16: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments And I don't think Nancy's book Molly was it, it was more along the lines of the female Holden Caulfield type character was the main character and I don't think summary mentioned anything about another girl or a friendship between the two

message 17: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments I think the author of the book was female too

message 18: by Tab (new)

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Fleur de Leigh in Exile: A Novel Fleur de Leigh in Exile A Novel by Diane Leslie , maybe? Kirkus Reviews described the main character as "Holden Caulfield."

message 19: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Nah I think it was a tan off white color on the book covers

Regina, around what year did you see this book?

message 21: by Jamie (last edited Jul 27, 2017 12:28PM) (new)

Jamie Dacyczyn (readsintrees) | 297 comments The Mathilda Savitch one has another cover..... Mathilda Savitch by Victor Lodato

message 22: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments @ Kris: definitely either this year or last year. It was a very simple White off white color for the background on the cover with a picture of a lady and a Violet color for the font

message 23: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments I definitely don't think it was the Matilda book

message 24: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments The female character depicted on the book cover wasnt a black shaded outline like on Matilda Savitch and she was more of an adult female Holden Caulfield than a teen/young girl. So now that I think about it it might've not been a coming of age story. Somehow when I looked at the book I got a Scott Fitzgerald vibe from the cover maybe it was the fancy font

message 25: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments The cover was white/off white with a block outline inside of which the main female Holden caulfield type character was depicted from the back

message 26: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments It was like a memoir I think or a journal/diary entry format. It definitely described her life story and I think it may/may not have been coming of age only she was a more cynical version of Holden Caulfield and the time frame it took place in was somewhere in 1920-1960 time frame. I was of the assumption it was published around 1990-2010. (There were books of all different publishing dates and authors for sale with it; for examples I saw memoir of a geisha and the color purple and twilight by Stephanie meyer for sale near it as well) The book was paperback and looked sleek and new with violet purple font on the cover/back and an off white/white/tan color for the background

message 27: by Adele (new) - added it

Adele | 1429 comments There's this, Plain Jane by Eve Horowitz but the picture on Goodreads makes it really difficult to see that there is, in fact the title written in kind of a violet font. The picture here is better: https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-re...

message 28: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Nah not it. It was like a distance shot of a one lady and she looked realistic like it was a picture and less like a cartoon. Thanks though

message 29: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments A distance shot of a woman in a black and white colored photograph I believe

Jamie Dacyczyn (readsintrees) | 297 comments All of these details would have been nice with the FIRST post, not doled out bit by bit.....

I agree that fewer posts over such a short time period would have been better.

Adele | 1429 comments You're not thinking of The Bell Jar are you? It has been repeatedly compared to Catcher in the Rye and the main character, Esther, has been called a female Holden Caulfield. There have been hundreds if not thousands of editions, plus there are lots of books about The Bell Jar and some of them seem kind of close to your description.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Sylvia Plath The Bell Jar and Poems (Writers and Their Works) by Raychel Haugrud Reiff

The Bell Jar, a Novel of the Fifties by Linda Wagner-Martin

Adele | 1429 comments This isn't an exact match, but I thought I'd toss it out here: Celine by Brock Cole

message 37: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Nah, if I remember, the font was smaller and the lady's features weren't that distinguishable. Also, the female name of the title or the authors name had a E, R, J, or G at the beginning of it.

message 38: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments There was some light purple colors with the tan/white on the front and I think it was described as a feminist-ish book

message 39: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Note: I remember the cover reminds me of some of the covers by Kaye Gibbons although I don't think she wrote this one

message 40: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Bump

message 41: by Adele (new) - added it

Adele | 1429 comments I assume since you say it reminds you of Kaye Gibbons covers that it is not, Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons which says on the cover in this picture that Ellen Foster is "a southern Holden Caulfield"?

Here is a guess: Kate Vaiden by Reynolds Price

message 42: by Regina (new)

Regina Osiecki | 296 comments Yup, interesting. I don’t think it’s it but if anything I have a lot of nice suggestions from you guys of similar stuff to read 🙏
