Pamela (bibliohound) | 359 comments This book was interesting and thought provoking, but for me a book for the head rather than the heart. I enjoyed it and thought there were some really well written passages, but found the ideas more engaging than the characters.

Apart from the main character, the other characters are mainly symbolic and don't develop much, they are there to illustrate a point at that time in the protagonist's 'journey'. I found Jack the most interesting of these.

The most famous scene is the Battle Royal at the start of the novel, which is certainly striking and brutal, but I also found the paint factory pretty memorable, and the riot scenes of course.
