The Mystery, Crime, and Thriller Group discussion

In doing my general weekly round of mystery/crime/thriller websites, I stumbled on the list of submissions for the 2015 Edgar Awards. These aren't the nominations, just what's been submitted. But just out of curiosity, how many of these have you read?

Oh dear, I know I'm new to thrillers, but I haven't read any of them.

The only one I've read is Will Thomas's Fatal Enquiry, but a half dozen or so others are on my 'to read' list.

Oh, I don't have a point to make ... whenever I see lists like this I do the "how many of these have I read" thing so I was just curious. I'm that geeky.

I ended up with just the one - The Black-Eyed Blonde: A Philip Marlowe Novel, by Benjamin Black.

Mental (actually a file in my computer - it's the only way I can keep track of what I have and haven't read).

Pretty amazing to see how many books have been submitted and the year is only half-way through. The actual nominees are a far smaller list. I'm reading my way through the nominees for 2014 - at least the ones that interest me.

I see some familiar authors on the list but have not read any of the titles. I did watch the Sherlock Holmees' episode that was nominated, "The Empty Hearse".

I haven't read any of those particular books, though I've read others by some of the same authors. However, I happened to pick up Hunting Shadows to read last night.

I've read 23 from the first three lists, plus own about 15 that I haven't gotten to yet.

I get so many great recommends and updates on new stuff from GR groups & friends, have to keep moving to keep ahead! ;)

SYKM is deadly. Absolutely deadly!

Just what I needed: more books to add to my list! I like that site, Nancy. It's helpful that one can find books set in particular historical periods.

S.K., I've been collecting mystery and crime fiction pretty much at random since before I was a teenager, and SYKM has helped me to fill in the gaps when I didn't have a complete series. If you could see my shelves, you'd understand why I say it's deadly. You know those tv shows about hoarders? Every time I see an ad for one of those I feel this bizarre need to clean out my book collection and give a few away.

I have just read five and was shocked that there is a WHOLE lot more that I have never heard of, let alone read. Need to give up work- it gets in the way of reading!

When I die, my kids are going to have to rent a truck to haul my books to the library. They'll be able to have a used book sale just with my books alone.

I didn't see any I'd read, some of the authors, yes, but none of the specific books..

The only book on that list that I've read is Innocent Blood by James Rollins & Rebecca Cantrell.

I've read two of them - A Circle of Wives by Alice LaPlante and Robert B. Parker's Cheap Shot by Ace Atkings - and have several of my to read list. I'll be adding several more to my to read list from the looks of it!

Whenever I see one of these lists, I start thinking of all of the books I want. Then I start thinking of all of the books on my tbr pile. Then I add more to the tbr pile.

The only one I even have is The Mad Sculptor: The Maniac, the Model, and the Murder that Shook the Nation and I haven't started it yet.

Wow! So many books and I have only read one 4 out of 5. Really good book with a few slow spots.

I have yet to read a lot of them. But that list ? Gosh that was awesome ! I'll just bookmark the page or add it to me 'Read Later' list in the browser and get back to it later !

I love this thing about the group, the most. The recs and thus, my never ending TBR ! I loved the idea of the thread BTW, Nancy :)
I hope you keep doing it in future as well. Will probably save me a lot of time searching for new one :P

Never fear, Ishita -- I spend one day a week prowling my favorite book haunts, Twitter, and whatever -- I'll be sharing a lot in the near future. The downside, of course, is all of the books we add to our own lists!

I feel so much better now that I won't have to do the tedious job myself. I'm kinda lazy when it comes to poking around for reason :P
It is indeed a downside. The TBRs never seem to end but the books keep piling up. I always say we have so little time to read too much.

I read The Troop by Nick Cutter but I wouldn't call it a mystery. More of a horror book. My problem is I am so backed up on books is I very rarely get to read stuff the year it comes out!

well, I think you're ahead of everyone here so far.

I've read thirteen from the top list. I do buy many but also check them out from the library and they are all new hardcovers. My reading took a dip this year because I read almost thirty old mystery anthologies for a particular project.

Curious --- How does the nomination year run? From June 2013 through June 2014? I read many books published between June 2013 and Dec 2014. Where are all of those?

i have read 5 books and i am reading a nother on the list also i am a few of those on the list on my t b r self

I feel like I'm lagging. I've only read 8 of those listed. I read about 70 books since January of this year, but from various genre. Thriller, crime, horror, are my all time favorite(s) though.
I am never without a book. Reading has been my comfort for thirty years or more. I have no clue how many I've read over the years. Sorry, for prattling on...its my passion. :)

You all have me beat! Don't worry about prattling, Doseofbella -- I prattle in person so I'm used to it.
