Nikki Sojkowski (nikkisoj) | 868 comments Hello Addicted to YA! We are starting a new feature on our Group that both our reader members and our author members voted for: The Author Feature!!!

Our very first guest for Addicted to YA’s author feature is the lovely Lynne Stringer who has been a member here since 2014! Let’s have a warm welcome for her here on this thread!!

Author Bio: Lynne Stringer has been passionate about writing all her life, beginning with short stories in her primary school days. She began writing professionally as a journalist and was the editor of a small newspaper (later magazine) for seven years, before turning her hand to screenplay writing and novels.

Lynne is the author of the Verindon trilogy, a young adult science fiction romance series released in 2013. Her latest novel, released in October 2016, is Once Confronted, a contemporary drama.

Book Series Name: The Heir (Verindon #1)

Book Description: Sarah hates the prestigious high school she attends. Most of the other students ignore her. School is only made tolerable by the presence of Dan Bradfield, the boy she adores. Dan is the heir to his father’s multinational computer company, but he is dating Sarah’s best friend, Jillian.

When tragedy strikes, Dan is the one who is there for Sarah, but she can’t shake the feeling there is something strange about him. Is he protecting her from something? Is there something going on that she doesn’t know about?

And did she really see a monster in the bushes?

Sarah is desperate to uncover the truth, but it could take her to another galaxy, and change everything she believes about who she is. Will it bring Dan and Sarah closer together or tear them apart?

Q&A

Do you have a Guilty Pleasure book?
Twilight

What is your favorite quote?
“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

What is your favorite movie and why?
E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial. I saw it when I was eleven and could relate to Elliott and his awkwardness and was captured by the excitement of this amazing, vulnerable creature he had to protect.

What is your favorite genre to read? To write?
Speculative fiction with a touch of romance

Which authors inspire you?
Enid Blyton, LM Montgomery, Baroness Orczy, Stephenie Meyer

What is the best part about being an author?
Seeing other people enjoy the worlds I've created.

Give us an insight into your main character. What does she do that is so special?
She doesn't have much confidence in herself but she sees the rest of the world around her clearly. When terrible and unusual things happen to her through the course of the story, she hangs on to her core self and comes out the other side of it a better person.

What was the hardest thing about writing your last book?
My last book was a contemporary drama with an armed robbery in it. I am the victim of armed robbery, and even though mine happened quite a few years ago now, it proved difficult to write about something like that.

L.B. Schulman (authorlbschulman) The cover is cool. I'm curious: Did you write the trilogy all at one time, or did you publish the first one and then decide to write more? What was the biggest challenge in writing a series?

Christopher Higdon | 1 comments I'm not as big into romance at all but I love YA whats in this book for someone like me? I am intrigued but the romance parts may be throwing me off.

I knew what was going to happen, especially in a pivotal moment in the third book, before I started writing anything. Once I had that sorted out, I wrote the first book and edited it for a while, before writing the second and third manuscripts and leaving them unpolished until we were ready to get the first one out. All three books were released within the period of a year.

I think the biggest challenge in writing a series is trying to make sure you're not contradicting something that's happened in one of the books that have already been released! You definitely need to view the whole story as one story.

The romance is only part of it and I don't think it's a part that's overwhelming. I admit freely that I wrote this primarily for women but I've had male sci-fi geeks who have loved it and grandfathers; males of all ages, really. It definitely has a broader reach than I had anticipated.

It always seemed like three separate stories to me so yes, it seemed to lean towards 'trilogy' from the beginning. :-)

Petra Costa (petracosta) I'm new to goodreads and love the idea of author features. I am currently working a YA trilogy. My first book has just been released. Can you tell us where you got the original concept from and did the story morph much during the process. I'm curious because I'll have everything planned out and then the character may go on directions I wasn't exactly expecting.

My characters certainly like to make their own decisions and some of them surprised me. However, I always knew where the stories were heading, although sometimes the journey there was a little different from what I had been expecting.

The idea came to me like this. My husband and I were going on holiday and while we were in the car he was trying to make me laugh by telling me ridiculous pickup lines. I was trying to think of my own but the only one of I could think of was when the guy says to the girl, 'You are the only reason I was put on this planet.'

I thought that sounded pretty lame and when I imagined a guy saying it, the girl laughed. Then the guy gave her a serious look and said, 'No, you ARE the only reason I was put on this planet.' I realised he meant it literally and I spent our holiday thinking about what that might mean. That's where the story came from. :-)

I've been writing since I was about eight. My father is also an author, so I suppose I got the talent from him. I wrote three manuscripts in the nineties that I never did anything with. Then I became a journalist for a while, before returning to writing novels. Interestingly, my latest novel, Once Confronted, was a rewrite of one of those first three novels I wrote in the nineties. :-)

The idea for the Verindon trilogy came to me like this. My husband and I were going on holiday and while we were in the car he was trying to make me laugh by telling me ridiculous pickup lines.
