This thread is where you can chat about all things PIFM, ask questions and once books have been read, review your selected reads. A complete free for all.

PLEASE NOTE:

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Thanks.

Dana - I have House of Leaves as a challenge book this year so if it wins for you I might well read along too.

Mandy, I voted for In The Blood. You have me listed on One Kick.

message 5: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Dana and Mandy, House of Leaves is one of the most original and creepy books I've read.
Slade House is creepy too and would make a good Halloween read. It's also pretty short. hmm

Ooops not sure how that happened - will change that now, thanks

Amber Martingale I decided to eliminate from my choices every book I wanted to read this month that wasn't available except through inter library loan, Mandy. ILL is usually so slow I end up waiting up to three months from something, which means I'd be probably waiting until December for something like Dog-Ma and I'm no longer willing to wait more than two weeks for something through ILL.

I don't blame you - I'd forget what I had ordered if it took that long lol

Perri, if you like creepy that you should read Ann's new book London Noir the perp is so creepy and Ann managed to crawl into his mind and show all the extend of his evil. I loved the book but still wasn't able to finish it :-(

because you were so creeped out? I plan to participate in the Q and A :)

message 12: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale It wasn't a matter of forgetting what I ordered, Mandy. It's more a matter of not being able to choose more than two of my highest vote getters every month I'm stuck WAITING for the one I sent out for via ILL.

In other words it's a choice between the normal 3rd place book or waiting for a previous month's 3rd place recipient... .

message 13: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale The Beauty of the Beasts: Tales of Hollywood's Wild Animal Stars is in the lead with 6 votes.

Yes, Perri. Ann makes an excellent job in showing the perp's thoughts - it's so chilling - I think most of you will love it - I'm just too chicken but that's life.

Good for you to want to paricipate. Did you read the first one in series? I loved this one as well. It was borderline for me but I managed to finish it - the second is much more intense. Did you see London Noir will be free the first two or three days of November?

I did see it will be free. Ann says it can work as a stand-alone which is good since I don't have the time to read the first. I don't mind violence as long as it makes sense to the story and preferably not kids or animals involved.

It's not so much violence I struggled with by the intense, creepy emotions and the foreboding of mighty evil and something really bad to happen and I only read the first eight chapters. It's so difficult to explain - kind of intense but suble mind games. I think it was the first time a book got too suspensfull for me - not violent just instense - edge of the seat feeling while reading in bed.

message 17: by Perri (last edited Sep 17, 2017 03:22PM) (new)

Perri | -43 comments The Outsiders haa a strong lead. If that wins, I'll want to watch the famous movie too

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments I'm so excited for you Perri! The book/movie has had a special place in my heart since reading it for school 😊

I don't know how I got thru school without reading it!?!

message 20: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 1126 comments Thanks for your votes everyone, so far Run by Blake Crouch is in the lead by 1 vote, which will help me tick off New Mexico in my 50 States Challenge, but to be quite honest I'm quite looking forward to reading all of them eventually... Halloween season just gave me a good excuse to lump them all together!

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments Seems like it's going to be an outstanding win for Angela Marsons this month. Actually, I was hoping the Douglas Adams one would come out on top - I could do with some laughs!

Talking of which - anyone like to recommend some funny books?

message 22: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments Some of my favorite books come from female comedians, especially Mindy Kaling if you like her humour, which I certainly do!

One I was surprised by and laughed out loud a few times last year was Where'd You Go, Bernadette - have you read this one?

message 23: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments I LOVED Where'd You go Bernadette. Anything Lawson write makes me laugh https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
and Sedaris

when he writes about his life (his memoir type books)

message 24: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I think I'm gonna close my list to voting a few days early.

message 25: by Ann (new)

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments thanks Perri and Dana, I've added Sedaris and Kaling!

message 26: by Perri (last edited Sep 21, 2017 08:28AM) (new)

Perri | -43 comments YW Ann. If you like to listen to audio, Sedaris has a great dry funny delivery.

PS I see you just read Between the World and Me Now I understand why you need a lighter book

You're in for a treat - it's such a great book and the perp is creepy and scary! The psychological side of the story is great - at least for layman :-)

Amber Martingale Ok, my third book, Five Quarts, has arrived.

message 41: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale And the Hollywood book has font that ALMOST too small for me to read.

message 42: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Was glad to read The Outsiders even though I thought it was dated. The Francis Ford Coppola movie is a hoot- so many young future star actors!

message 43: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I have started my October read, The Fall (Dismas Hardy, #16) by John Lescroart . This is an achievement since I was somewhat behind last month.

Oguzhan | 3 comments Hi everyone!

Just recently got into thriller books, was wondering if anyone could given me some great thriller books to read? Preferably books that aren't series, prefer stand alone thrillers!

Thanks In advance!

message 45: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (penn_y_lane) | 547 comments Yay, I've finished my Oct read and it's only 4th! I have was so behind last month but have managed to catch up and am looking forward to choosing Nov's read now.

The last five star thriller I read was Desperation Road You might also like The Dry which takes place in Australia. It's the first book in a series but it didn't leave me hanging for the next

message 47: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Actually enjoying both the book about blood and the canine impact on human history more than I did the one animals in Hollywood, mostly because they both have a font size I can read w/o magnification.
