Twilla Wickedly Sweet and Synful Book Blog (tweetatweet) | 4 comments Sometimes I hate a series because if it's unfinished you have to wait and wait. I sometimes have forgotten the details of the prior book. For example Outlander, this series has been ongoing for 20+ years. It's painful sometimes. What series are you waiting for?

Jennifer Blackstream (jenniferblackstream) | 5 comments Dresden Files, Peace Talks. I see what you're saying about the wait and losing details. The books I love, the ones that are intricate enough and complex enough to warrant re-reading, are great for combating this because you actually want to re-read them. Those are the series that you can read the books again and still forget things, still be surprised. I feel this way about the Dresden Files and the Anita Blake series.

Alice Bello (alicebelloromance) | 15 comments Unfortunately the end of the Kate Daniels Series. I know Ilona will write more in that world, but I still don’t want Kate’s story to end. Oh, and the Dresden Files! It’s been over 3 years!!!

Nerdy Werewolf (nerdywerewolf) Unholy Luck (Downside Ghosts, #6) by Stacia Kane Consistently Downside Ghosts for me. I haven't even read the 5th book because I wanted to read them together...that was like, 4 years ago...

I was a little concerned about the Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price series when there was a hiatus from 2012-2016, but Ms. Price seems to be pumping the books out again. I love that world.

Marti Melville | 22 comments Quick question - is it a deal breaker for you (as a reader) if you cannot read all of the books in a series at once? For example, if book 4 is still being written in a series, are you prone to walk away from the published books 1, 2, and 3 from that same series?

message 7: by Nerdy Werewolf (new)

Nerdy Werewolf (nerdywerewolf) @Marti, nope. There can only be one book out and a tenative imaginary future for the next book and I'll still give it a shot.

I feel like, for me, it's only frustrating when you're promised a book and the date continually gets pushed back. Most readers understand that writers are people, too. We do not like broken promises, though.

Avid readers plan around that stuff; look forward to it and get together with other fans to discuss possibilites. To constantly have that taken aways kind of hurts?

Three books is a good chunk of reading, though. I wouldn't turn it down because the fourth wasn't out yet.

It depends. If an author has a history of consistently releasing books in a timely manner, then I will start a new series. For example, I started Alex Verus mid way through the series because Benedict Jacka has a history of releasing the books consistently; I'll have at least one book in the series to read a year if his pace keeps. I have not, however, started to read any Pat Rothfuss books even though I am very interested, as he has NOT put out books consistently in a timely manner.
