Joanna Elm | 145 comments Obviously none of you are in the U.S. Today? What else is there to eat but turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce? Maybe some veg like green beans or brussel sprouts thrown in!!! I wait for this meal all year, and that's exactly what I last ate -- about three hours ago. Happy Thanksgiving

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8077 comments That sounds good. Wish I had some right now. I have to ask, what's a pumpkin roll? I'm guessing bread made with pumpkin. Never heard of it.

It's a whole grain roll with pumpkin seed..."

I make a nice basil pesto with pumpkin seeds. (They're called pepitas here.)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8077 comments The last thing I ate is something I just put together. Sauteed shrimp sprinkled with garlic salt in some olive oil. When done, added a little butter and some half-and-half. Poured it over a baked potato.

Hopefully - neither interstellar nor planetary. They were just trying to prove they were incompatible with our culinary school -:)

Quantum (quantumkatana) Tonight, I made a meatball and butternut squash marinara sauce in my instant pot and ladled it over penne rigate.

The instant pot is so convenient. You can saute in it, steam, pressure cook, make yogurt (I haven't tried it yet, but I got the packet), and much, much more--all in one pot, which means easy cleanup. I got one for my mom too and she really loved the pot roast she made in it.

Ian Miller | 1857 comments Never heard of an instant pot but it sounds intriguing. What is it?

Just curious, Alex - generally when I hear marinara, it means seafood based pasta sauce here. Does yours have a seafood base?

Ian Bott (iansbott) | 216 comments Chicken pan fried in port and cream, with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. And I wonder why my waistline is expanding?

Oh, I didn't know that. It's just a Trader Joe's veg spaghetti sauce and then I added white wine, salt and pepper. (Sometimes I make the sauce starting from plain tomato sauce, but I didn't have any in the cupboard.)

What do you call a veg spaghetti sauce?

Here's the instant pot.

message 39: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments What do you call a veg spaghetti sauce?

It's generally a neopolitana sauce, or simply 'pasta sauce.' That's in contrast to marinara, or bolognaise sauce.

message 40: by Quantum (new)

Quantum (quantumkatana) Ah.

message 47: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8077 comments Last thing I ate: breakfast sausages, eggs over easy, and cheese grits. If you've never had grits cooked the right way, you're missing something good :-)

message 48: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments What exactly are grits?

message 49: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8077 comments Coarsely ground corn. One scoop of grits per six scoops of water. Add salt and butter, cook for 20 minutes. Add cheese if you like. Otherwise, pour into dish, add more butter and salt to taste. Easier and just as tasty as polenta, just not as fancy.

message 50: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8077 comments Last thing I ate: spaghetti with doctored up sauce from a jar. Just OK, but easy.
