2025 Reading Challenge discussion

Hi everyone!

We haven't even entered 2018, but that won't stop us from nominating for February! The theme of the month is Olympics. How you intepret the theme is totally up to you! I look forward to see what you nominate!

Please remember to state a connection to the theme when you nominate. Thank you :)

Here are some short rules for nominating books:

~ Each person can nominate 1 book.

~ Book must be available both as a physical copy and as an ebook.

~ Authors: Please do not nominate your own book.

~ Please include the name of the book and the author or link to the book.

~ Please do not nominate books that are part of a series, unless it is the first book.

~ You can second someone else's nomination, but that will count as your nomination.

~ When nominating, please state a connection to the theme.

~ You cannot nominate a book which has previously been a group read. Past buddy reads are fine. (See Group Reads in the bookshelf)


This thread will be closed by December 25th, and we will choose ten books for the poll. If there are more than ten books nominated, we will choose the ten most nominated. If there is still a tie to get into the top ten, we'll go back to the Goodreads average rating to see which is highest.

I nominate The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown. The title is pretty self explanatory:)

I nominate Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.

I don't think it's been group read yet but I buddy read it earlier this year. It's very good. It's about Louis Zamperini who ran in the Berlin Olympics and his struggles during WWII.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins -- it's about "games" of sorts. Only the strongest will last.

I read that one a couple years ago. It was excellent.

This connection is a bit far fetched, but I am going to nominate The Circle by Dave Eggers as the logo of the Olympic games contains five circles!

I'd like to nominate The Lightning Thief, which is the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I've never read it and I've always heard good things.

I like all these titles but I have to put my vote in for Unbroken. Only because it is on my shelf (for a while now) and I joined the clear your shelf challenge. Completely selfish motives here.

I totally agree with The Lightening Thief as well. I think it's the best book I read this year.

Might I add that The Lightening Thief can be said to be related to the theme because it's about Greek Mythology, and the gods in Olympus.
That's the origin of the Olympics itself. Plus the theme of the book includes sports too and survival skills

My vote is for the The Lightning Thief. It's a great book which is a great start to Rick Riordan's books.
