Sarah (outtaty) | 9 comments It's with great trepidation that I will attempt this challenge. :D I have a ton of books sitting here, gathering dust, sad and unread. Time to do some dusting. No rhyme or reason to these pickings.

Old School
Dombey and Son
Wives and Daughters
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

New School
The Hound of the Baskervilles
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Murder at the Vicarage

Wildcard Books
The Enchanted April
Kim
Wuthering Heights
The Book of Imaginary Beings
I Capture the Castle
The Twenty-One Balloons

Alternates
Jane and Prudence
East of Eden

Kathleen | 5465 comments Sometimes the no rhyme or reason lists are the best. :-) I would love to read The Book of Imaginary Beings--I'm trying Ficciones soon. And I thought The Enchanted April was, well, enchanting. Hope you enjoy them all!

message 3: by Brina (new)

Brina Count me as another who should read Ficciones. I love the idea of reading Newberry winners. The 21 Balloons sounds just lovely.

Sarah, you have several books here that I need to read or have on my list for 2018. I'm trying to get through Dickens and Dombey and Sons is one that I need to do. I'll be very interested in seeing what you think of it.

I'm glad you enjoyed The Enchanted April. I have it on my list.

Terris | 4388 comments I'm interested in The Twenty-One Balloons. I don't know much about it but have seen it on a couple of the lists. I'll watch for your review :)

Melanti | 1894 comments Knocking books off your TBR is just as valid of a reason as any!

I've had a copy of Kim sitting around unread for years too.

I really enjoyed One Hundred Years of Solitude when it was a group read earlier this year.

Sarah (outtaty) | 9 comments Reading all your comments is getting me revved up to get reading!
I did make a couple changes. I felt like a reread of Wuthering Heights. It's been 20 years and I'm intrigued to see what I think of it as an adult. I also haven't read much Steinbeck, so why not put another chunky book on my list. :D

Steinbeck is wonderful! And his books aren't super long. You should definitely read some of his :)

Oh yes, don't miss Steinbeck!

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3694 comments Agree with the rest on East of Eden. I was hoping to read Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea this year too but it didn't fit on one of my 4 challenges so I may not get to it.

Have fun with your challenge Sarah!

Veronique | 1154 comments This is a lovely list! I have enjoyed many of your titles and hope you do too. I love Jules Verne (grew up reading him) and cannot believe I haven’t read 20,000 leagues! Do want to try to fit it in this year...

Sarah (outtaty) | 9 comments I’m so glad I listened to everyone and read East of Eden. It was absolutely fantastic. Steinbeck is in a league of his own.

Bravo, Sarah. East of Eden is in my favorites folder. It is among the greatest books ever written, IMHO.

Sarah (outtaty) | 9 comments I've been remiss in updating my progress. I've finished the 3 on my New School List. Hound of the Baskervilles was a good read, One Hundred Years of Solitude was a weird read, and Murder at the Vicarage was a great read. :D I loved the Enchanted April. I'm so glad that I stopped putting it off. The 21 Balloons was cute, but not quite as good as I expected.

I'm currently reading Wives and Daughters which I'm loving!
