My husband and I recently finished reading Bird Box. We went in blind (ha!) with no prior knowledge what it was about and were pleasantly surprised. It's not perfect but definitely a page turner. Would have loved to have had it during my last long flight.
I looked it up after and it seems that Netflix is adapting it into a movie. Not sure how the horror will translate, but fingers crossed!

I might have to reread this. I didn’t like it the first time, I remember thinking it felt like a college play - thin of actors, sets, and budget.

I can definitely see why it could come across as an indie or low budget play. I interpreted it more like claustrophobic but I agree the characters could have used a little more development. I thought the structure was interesting and the pace kept things moving. Love the art in that special edition, thanks for sharing!

how in the world are they going to make it into a movie? I pray they do NOT show us a monster, or whatever you think is out there. oh take a hint from Night or curse of the demon and don't show it!! I did like this the first time I read it.

I agree, hope they don't just make it into a typical CGI monster movie. Less is more!

I don't know how I feel about Bird Box being movie considering what I loved about it was the creepy tension of not seeing.

I haven't read the book yet but I want to. I guess it would make more sense reading it first before watching the movie, when it's released?

I would definitely read the book first. I loved it!

I enjoyed the setup and the tension-building, but it felt like a bit of a cop-out to me to leave the creatures so much of an unresolved mystery - I think you can have unknowable horrors and still give them a hint of flavour and atmosphere.

Caitlin Kiernan's The Red Tree or Danielewski's House of Leaves are more my kind of unresolved horror!

I read this in a day because my phone broke and I was bored, it's grim! I was so depressed after it so probably shouldn't have read the whole book in a day

I'm also worried that they're going to mess it up by making it into a film. I absolutely loved the book, and it scared me rigid, which few books do. I don't know how they're going to convey the sense of mounting dread and horror that built slowly throughout the book. And not ever having a definitive answer about what the creature was, was a positive - the imagination can supply something way more disturbing than any CGI can.

And that scene in the bar with the dog... Can't ever bear to watch that, it broke my heart into tiny fragments.
