Antonio | 1 comments The book is basically there is two nations in a planet divided by a field made of a type of flower that makes you hallucinate, one of the races living on the planet has hard skin and has been trained for fighting. They have this ceremony where they go to distant planets to scavenge scrap from them (In the book they go to a planet underwater). This race decides to attack the other race and kills the dad of the protagonist and kidnaps him and his brothers looking for the mother(I think their mother was the speaker or something like that). They bring them to their land where they serve as servants until they discover that the protagonist can stop peoples powers and assign him to the princess(I think) which her power is that she can cause pain but it also hurts her. ANd that's all I'm going to give without going into spoiler territory.

Anything about the cover?
Part of a series?
Was it for teens or adults?

Antonio, spoilers are OK in this group. Often spoilers are the way that books get found as there are so many now that have similar tropes. If you are still worried, click on the Some HTML is OK link on the upper right hand side of the comment box. That will show you how to put (view spoiler) into a clickable box. That way, if someone thinks they want to read the book, they won't have it spoiled for them.

Cathy (boxershiner) The title "A book about a planet where everyone has a power and two nations are at war (I think it was science fiction)" Makes me think of "Old Man's War" By John Scalzi. But your memories of the story do not. However, Old Man's War is the first of a series and I've not read any of the other books by him. Perhaps investigate this author.

Ellen | 2 comments okay, YES, finally, this is the exact book I have been looking for. I cannot for the life of me find it, but here are other things I can add:
—the book is newer, from the last ten years most likely but definitely within the last fifteen
—there's some kind of frost or storm or pollen that one half of the planet is afraid of? and there's a recurring storm, possibly annually
—oracles are involved; either the main character's mother is one or a mother-figure oracle is involved
—there are twin sisters that no one realizes are twins, and one of them is the protagonist's school friend. one might have a scar or some other disfigurement? and they're very important to his race, I think one of them might be destined to be queen
please, PLEASE help me find this book if you can. I honestly can't even remember if it was good but the memory of it bothers me incessantly

Antonio, does Ellen's description sound like the book that you're looking for?

Ellen, if you think your book might be a different one, please create a new thread. This will avoid confusion. (Or create your own thread as you might get faster responses. Antonio hasn't been on the site for a few months.) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/new?c...

Soo, how did you find it? Just another google search? What terms did you use to search (if that's the case)?
