Questions for Mods?

Typically, it depends on the length of the challenge. Monthly challenges are updated the most frequently and yearly challenges are updated the least frequently but usually at least 1-..."
That was fast. :)
Thanks Kristin. Appreciate it. I am not a part of your challenges, though. Again, thanks.

I see, that the Group Read folders have recently been moved up on the discussion board. Is it perhaps to get more people to notice it?
Personally I spend more time in the yearly, quarterly and monthly challenges folders and you have to scroll a long way down passing personal folders, chats, blogs and now group reads to find them.
I know, they can be “closed” (but for the life of me I can’t get them to stay that way 😂) and I have now also made my own favorite links to get to them quicker, but if potential new members are looking for a challenge group to join, they might not get that far 😉
This is NOT a big issue for me, haha - just a small feedback 😍
Wishing you a great weekend - hmmm, whatever time zone you happen to live in 🤩

Hi Gretchen!
I am also behind with updating my challenges (Clear the Shelves/TBR Jar) but I hope to get it done this week. Sometimes real life gets in the way so apologies for any delay.

Welcome to the group :) You can join the September challenges when we unlock them in a couple of days. Any challenge that is ongoing can be joined, so feel free to join 3rd quarter challenges and yearly challenges as well!

Welcome to the group, LordRhys.
Short answer: Yes, audiobooks do count.
Happy reading, um, listening!

I am afraid you'll have to wait a little while longer, Jennifer. It usually starts mid November.

Thanks for asking, Jennifer :) I was wondering, too.

Yes, we’ll change the name after January 1:)

I was hoping we could just go back and re-start the year. I could use a mulligan.

Boy have I had years like that. Maybe we could have two groups - one moving forward, one...staying put for the 'Mulligan' (I had to look that up :D).

When I loaded my "Recent Updates" today, I discovered that only my five latest updates from GoodReads friends are displayed.
When I click on the "Load more updates" button, nothing happens.
When I checked Goodreads Help, someone else with this problem required technical help from Goodreads.
I used the "Contact Us" feature to message GoodReads and will, apparently, hear back in several days.
Is this happening to anyone else in the group?

I just saw your comment above and tried refreshing my Home page.
Previously and now, I'm on a desktop.
it's working now! (I wonder what was up earlier....)
Thanks for your feedback, Kristin.

When I try liking anyone's update, my Home page reloads with only the 5 most recent updates again. But I can see all my updates as long as I don't "like" them.
I'm going to ignore my Home page and just read. :S

In the group reads I know one of the rules is we can't repeat books, but I've noticed that every so often something gets missed and a book is read a second time. I put this down to the clunkiness of the bookshelf feature on Goodreads, as it's tricky with so many books listed.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but I was wondering if maybe a google document or spreadsheet could be set up listing all the books that have been read, with a link provided in each nomination thread? That way a ctrl+f can be quickly done for users to search the list, rather than scrolling through the bookshelf? Can google docs be linked on Goodreads? I'm not sure.
But that was just a thought I had. It may take a little while setting up, but afterwards, it probably wouldn't take more than a minute to add the group read to the list once the poll closes :)

Arhggg, the same is happening to me now... Have you heard back from GR by any chance?

Thanks for your suggestion, Ashleigh! This is a good idea and we can definitely link a google sheet to nomination thread. Coming soon :)

Thanks Marc, we are on it :)

I look forward to getting started in 2020. Thanks again for the quick response.

Also, I saw, somewhere, other group challenges mentioned here - off the top of my head, Book Riot. Are these challenges set up within this one? And, if so, if I want to participate, do I need to join those/that group, too?
Thanks!

Hi Kate, we will start posting the yearly challenges, the personal challenge folders and member corner in the beginning of December. That would be the perfect time to start setting up :)
Regarding the challenges, PopSugar is going to be hosted as a challenge here, but BookRiot will not. However, you are of free to add any challenges to your member corner, regardless of whether we are hosting them or not. And you don't have to join other groups, you can just let the challenge leader here know that you'll be participating :)

I noticed the "New Members Start Here" thread has been recently locked. Is this in any way significant to new members and/or "possible" new members?

Do you know how I can do that? Thank you lots. And thank you for being awesome moderators!"Unerneath the post you want to reply to- on the right-hand bottom side, you will see the word "reply" just click on that and the quote of the person you want to talk to will show up on the top of your post.

It still exists. I’m not quite sure why it’s not on the main thread but if you scroll all the way down and click on more discussions it shows up right after the 100-199 folder. I bookmark my personal thread in my browser for easy access, so that might be easier than scrolling to find it each time.

Hi Dianne, the last new comments in that folder were posted on November 6, and folders that are inactive for 10 days dissappear from the home page.

Thanks for letting us know!

I wonder if we could move the "Group Discussions - Let's Chat" discussions a little bit higher on the group main page? With all the 2019 and the 2020 topics right now these discussions are harder to find, but they seem relevant to many of the group members. Maybe we could place them directly above or below the Mod Topics discussions?
Just a suggestion and thanks as always for your hard work! Have a terrific holiday season!
RJ

Thank you Ilona!

Welcome to the group, Michelle!
Many members create their own thread in the Member's Corner folder for the sole purpose of tracking their challenges.
Some use their Personal Challenges thread to track both the books they've read for the Goodreads (personal) reading challenge and the reading challenges of this group and other groups.
It's up to you. You might look at a few Member's Corner threads to decide whether you'd prefer a single Personal Challenges thread or an additional Member's Corner thread.
Happy deciding! 😊

The Group Read Nominations are typically posted two months in advance. Due to the holiday season, though, the thread for March will be unlocked by January 1st, at the latest.
Thank you for your enthusiasm, Asleigh!
Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but does anyone know why all the sudden my post, post twice. I have to always delete one.

I have this sometimes as well, and I suspect that it is a browser error. Do you have this on multiple devices? If it continues to be a problem I would suggest that you contact Goodreads Help.
