Star Wars Darth Plagueis is a Science-fiction novel written by James luceno on the backstory of sith lord Darth Plagueis, released in 2012. This book focuses on the middle and later part of his life, showing his mindset, and his push for power not just in the force but in the political world as well. This book takes place just before Star Wars the Phantom Menace, which up until this book has been a overlooked area in the star wars universe.
This book starts Ironically starts at the end of the book as you see Plagueis meet his grim fate at the hands of palpatine. Taking another big leap it jumps far back in time as you see Darth Plagueis as a apprentice to his master Darth Tenebrous, the book continues on a linear path forward. If someone was to me tell that timeline of the book I would assume it would be very confusing but James luceno actually does a really good job of letting theses two parts flow together nicely.
I feel James Luceno did a great job telling this story, the dialogue between Plagueis and his new apprentice Palpatine is great and how you would expect sith to speak to each other. Although there are times where they are harsh on each other, you can tell that they both really respect each other and want what is best for the The Grand Plan. However, where this book falls short at times is where Palpatine and Plagueis are not together and minor characters come in. In my opinion this book paid way too much attention to the other minor characters in the book and it became quite boring when Plagueis and Palpatine were in there alter ego personas of a Banker and a Senator for Naboo. I feel this way because when a book is titled Darth plagueis I expect it to be mainly be about Darth Plagueis and him as a sith not through away minor characters who help them.
Even though this story is not canon anymore, I loved this book and would highly recommend it to any Star Wars fan. This book lays out the overall Sith plan out well and makes a story you would not expect. It leads right up to the end of The Phantom Menace, you won't see the movie in the same way after reading this.
