Charlie Grant’s older sister is getting married this weekend at their family home, and Charlie can’t wait—for the first time in years, all four of her older siblings will be under one roof. Charlie is desperate for one last perfect weekend, before the house is sold and everything changes. The house will be filled with jokes and games and laughs again. Making decisions about things like what college to attend and reuniting with longstanding crush Jesse Foster—all that can wait. She wants to focus on making the weekend perfect.

The only problem? The weekend is shaping up to be an absolute disaster.

There’s the unexpected dog with a penchant for howling, house alarm that won’t stop going off, and a papergirl with a grudge.

There are the relatives who aren’t speaking, the (awful) girl her favorite brother brought home unannounced, and a missing tuxedo.

Not to mention the neighbor who seems to be bent on sabotage and a storm that is bent on drenching everything. The justice of the peace is missing. The band will only play covers. The guests are all crazy. And the wedding planner’s nephew is unexpectedly, distractingly…cute.

Over the course of three ridiculously chaotic days, Charlie will learn more than she ever expected about the family she thought she knew by heart. And she’ll realize that sometimes, trying to keep everything like it was in the past means missing out on the future.

Ch1-2. Mad household. Timeline feels odd but sure we’ll come back to the neighbour.

Up to ch7. Could definitely see this as a movie. Wonder what is going on with Mike.

Chapters 1-8:
I like Charlie, her sister, and her parents, but I don't like her brothers. I'm also curious about what happened with Mike. I don't like what Danny did. I wonder what Charlie will decide about her future, if she'll stick with her decision or change her mind.

Chapters 9-16:
There isn't a whole lot happening. The reason for Mike being angry and absent is unsurising but childish. He shouldn't have been surprised. I hope that Charlie and (view spoiler)[Jesse are together in the end, but I have a feeling it will be Bill (hide spoiler)]. I also suspect that (view spoiler)[Charlie will end up at a different college (hide spoiler)]. It was nice that (view spoiler)[Andie and Clark made an appearance (hide spoiler)]. I'm glad that things have worked out for them.

I'm up to Chapter 16.


(view spoiler)[I'm still not feeling this book. Which sucks normally I'm a fan of her books. We can all agree that Brooke needs to go. She is way too much, Now that we know why Mike is upset it's kind of sad. I understand him being upset but to stop talking to his family and calling talking about his family like that was a bit much. Chapters 17-23:
It's the weddimg day, and things have gotten ridiculous. (view spoiler)[An officiant that can't officiate, switched suits, an alarm that won't stay off, a power outage, a destroyed wedding cake. (hide spoiler)] Maybe this will have a good ending.

Chapters 25-30:
This didn't have the ending I was hoping for. (view spoiler)[I was surprised and disappointed that her parents were getting divorced, which is why the comic ended. It could have continued differently, though. (hide spoiler)] Also, I was disappointed that (view spoiler)[Charlie decided to go to Northwestern just to be near Bill. I really didn't like that part. (hide spoiler)] I did like that (view spoiler)[Mike and the family worked things out. (hide spoiler)]

I'm up to Chapter 23.


(view spoiler)[Needless to say everything that can go wrong has. It sucked that the guy was a prick about the suit. At least they were able to buy some cakes for the reception. I will admit the drama of the wedding was a little much. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Personally I thought this book wasn't as good as most of her other books. I was surprised that her parents were getting divorced. I was glad that the family made peace with Mike. It was nice that she was going to go to college near Bill. Hopefully things will work out. (hide spoiler)]

Up to ch13. The Mike situation makes more sense now. Raises interesting questions about private/public. At least Charlie is starting to take off her Rose-tinted glasses.

Up to ch21. Can’t help but wonder just what else can go wrong. A catalogue of disasters, but they’re hanging in there.

I think Mike did the same when he did the interview. But their mother broke her promisse.
I understand why Charly have the pink glases when she think about her family and this weekend in particular.
I'm the oldest of 8 siblings and I have an idealized view of my family too. Maybe because I went to live to another city when I started colllege....

First contemporary I've read in a while. Last contemporary I read was terrible so I'm a bit nervous about starting this one!

I'm starting it on Saturday as well! I'm pretty excited about this one because the storyline is different from the books I usually read.

Chapter 9 (view spoiler)[ I can see why Charlie doesn't wanna leave home now. Her family seems really close and it's hard to let go of that. I feel bad for Brooke. I don't think Charlie's treating her fairly. I get that she wants to spend family time but it's not Brooke's fault Danny messed up. (hide spoiler)]

Finished! (view spoiler)[ I liked it. I thought it was entertaining but my god was that a long book for the span of 3 days as a story! I didn't ultimately love it like all the other contemporaries I've read this summer. I thought it was long and parts of it was over done. Especially the wedding disaster on the day of the wedding. I was really surprised that their parents are getting divorced. I loved the comic at the end. It was so cute. I didn't like that Charlie picked a college to be close to Bill. I was hoping after everything, she would wake up and want to explore outside her family. I guess she's doing that now but not the reason I was hoping for. (hide spoiler)]
