We have one book already set up for November, but we normally do 2 or 3 books. My thought for this month could be First Contact November! Since this is the month celebrating the Pilgrims first contact with the Native Americans.

We don't have a "First Contact" bookshelf. So, we will be doing this nomination based on what people think of with a first contact book. If could be a happy first meeting or terrible.

Post your book idea and we will vote on them in about 2 weeks.

A few H/N nominated books, where we see first contact and which has no contact before the book's timeline starts, from ones I've read and not already read by the group (as Rendezvous with Rama) :
Fire with Fire
Camouflage
Annihilation
The Three-Body Problem
Leviathan Wakes
Blindsight
Anathem

I don't nominate any at the moment because I want to see more options first and if anyone will add to the list I'd be grateful

How about Childhood's End

Ditto:

Neanderthal Parallax
1. Hominids(2002) won
2. Humans (2003) nominated
3. Hybrids (2003) nothing!

The Neanderthal Parallax are short, as I recall, or at least I read them really fast.

BYW, I got so bored with Annihilation that the library loan ran out. It's nice to know it's a first contact novel because I sure couldn't tell.

The Three-Body Problem was also a library-loan-expire problem, but also. it just seemed so dry. I guess that is the Chinese feel to it, somebody said.

I am not really that interested in either of them. So my vote is neither of them.

I vote for Leviathan Wakes. I have a shiny new kindle copy that is calling me, faintly!

I nominate Childhood's End

re: Leviathan Wakes - it is a gripping novel, definitely worth reading

Re: Leviathan Wakes, I was watching "The Expanse" and quit because my husband was uninterested and it started to get all political (though I liked that actress playing the politician)

So I am hoping the book will get me going on it again so I don't have to watch a lot of the TV show over for lack of memory.

How does it compare? Does anyone know?

My knowledge is second-hand for I haven't watched the series, but when my friend said he did, I advised him to read the books and he liked them more.

I've read all the Expanse books, waiting for #7, Persepolis Rising, to come out in paperback. The 8th book also comes out in hardback in November I think. One a year, the reliability is great. The story is solid adventure, space opera, fairly easy to read. I've also watched the 3? seasons of the show. It's also good, but the events and factions can get a little confusing since you don't get the explanation you get in the books. But that's not so extreme that it spoils it. I liken it to reading Game of Thrones vs watching the series on TV. One of my favorite series.
