GabsAboutBooks Welcome to the first Bingo challenge! This challenge will start on Monday 9/24 and end on Sunday 9/30. The task is simple...complete the challenges to get a BINGO! You just need to complete 1 line of 5 challenges (one being a free space). Of course you can complete more challenges if you would like. Yes, you can definitely use the same book for multiple challenges. If you are able achieve a BINGO then you will move onto round 2 which will start Monday 10/1.

Bingo Challenge 1!

Let's use this thread to keep everyone updated on how your reading is going and how you're doing on the challenges. Of course yell out BINGO once you achieve it!

**UPDATE
If you are unable to obtain a Bingo before Sunday do not worry! You can continue into the following weeks and once you get a bingo move onto the next challenge! You don't loose if you can't complete the bingo before Sunday.

Danielle (danimgill) Hey all! Brand new to this group/challenge, I'm very excited. I'm going to try to work on the bottom horizontal line with the following:

Fall Release: Vengeful by V.E. Schwab, out 9/25
Creepy Cover: Suicide Club by Rachel Heng - the flowers do make it pretty, but something about that floating arm really creeps me out. {currently reading}
Book Set in a Different Country: European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman by Theodora Goss. Set all over Europe, and I'm in the US.
Graphic Novel or Manga: Saga: Book One by Brian K. Vaughan
School Setting: Vicious by V.E. Schwab. The characters don't stay in college for the whole book but they definitely start there - gotta reread before Vengeful!

You can use any book you are currently reading or want to read this week :) Hope this helps.

message 18: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizgotauco) | 38 comments Oh man, the book I'm currently reading (Bone Jack by Sara Crowe) fits a full diagonal if "school setting" can equal "school-aged characters" but I think this book is set during a school break (summer or otherwise): Stand alone (yup), Magical Creatures (yup), free space (thanks!), read a book in your PJs (that's when I am reading it), school setting (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh almost).

So maybe if I finish it this week I'll pick a school set book for my next one (which won't be hard, I have to read a ton of middle grade for some committee work). OR I can pick a fall release because it also fits the diagonal "physical book"/"magic"/"Suspense/thriller" . . .

it must be the practically perfect book bingo book!

message 19: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (itsshelbyd) | 1 comments So, is it okay if one book fills an entire line? (For example, I've started The Devil in the White City and it clears 11 boxes, including the entire top row... as long as yellow words count as a yellow cover)
I am planning on reading other books, I was just curious.

message 20: by Amber (new)

Amber | 72 comments I'm going to be planning my BINGOs around what I already have lined up to read in the next few weeks, so I may have to get creative with some of the weekly boards. My TBR lined up nicely for this week though :)

Middle line horizontally.

Breathe A Ghost Story by Cliff McNish has a predominately black cover, a haunted house (paranormal), illustrations, and you get the backstory for the haunting, which is set "hundreds of years ago, and there's a plague" (history).

I need to step up my game. Or find an equally perfect bingo book. LOL

My daughter says the writing is creepy, but didn't scare her (very little that is suitable for her does scare her, she just laps up tales of horror). She says it was quite good though, so she will recommend it!

Yeah, if we can count ongoing books that we already started, we should be able to count books we haven't quite finished. I figure it's an honour system thing. You don't pick up a book and read two pages and then check a bunch of Bingo squares. But if you have, say, a 600+ page book, you shouldn't be penalized for "only" making it through 400 pages.
