About this Challenge
◈ Starts on October 27th, 2018 and runs for 6 weeks
◈ The team with the highest points at the end of the 6 weeks wins!
◈ Each week the mods will “spin the wheel" and assign each team a word
◈ The team's task is to read books to spell out the word to gain points by number of pages read (check point system below)
◈ The team will get an extra 15 completion points if all the letters in the word are part of their spell-it-out
◈ Once teams have read their word for the week they can "re-read" the word to gain more points (according to the point system below).
◈ The team must read books to complete a read through of their word before they can get points for completing subsequent read throughs (i.e. if you only complete one book in the second read through and three in the third, you don't get points for the those 3 books in the third).
Example:
BONES BONES BO --> Gets points for all letters
BONES BON BO --> Only BONES + BON get points
◈ Books must be 160 pages or more in length. Children's books, Graphic Novels, Scriptplays (movie and theater), Cookbooks and Poetry books cannot be used unless by word count they can be verified (by arbookfind.com) as more than 40,000 words. If not on arbookfind, check audible for an audio version of longer than 4 hours for the book to be valid.
◈ Only books STARTED after the challenge begins can count.
◈Only books READ during the specified week can be used (“read date” is what counts to know which week it must be used in - but remember it must be started after the challenge begins.) Books cannot be read and then “banked” to use for a later week in the challenge

Point System
◈ Books between 160 and 200 pages = 5 points
◈ Books between 201 pages and 300 pages = 10 points
◈ Books between 301 and 400 pages = 20 points
◈ Books between 401 and 500 pages = 40 points
◈ Books between 501 and 650 pages = 60 points
◈ Books between 651 and 800 pages = 80 points
◈ Books over 801 pages = 100 points

Additional Points
◈ The team will get additional bonus points for "collecting" their word in the categories below(*):
- Word in text --> 20 points
- Word in title/series name --> 30 points
- Word on the cover --> 40 points
- Word as genre --> 50 points
(*)Note 1: Collecting the word can be done once per category.
Note 2: If the word is a colour, the category "Word on the cover" means reading a book with that cover colour (cover must be about 50% of that colour)
Note 3: Books need to be part of the spell-it-out to be used for points

◈ BOM bonus:
- Writing a day's worth of discussion questions = 40 points
- Participating in a current BOM (participating in discussion) = 20 points
Note 1: We will accept one team member per book per team for writing a days DQs. If, by three days prior to the BOM starting, we don't have enough volunteers to write all DQs, then we will let more than one team member per team write questions. If we have more people than days sign up (prior to 3 days before start date) we will randomise the volunteers to determine those who can write DQs
Note 2: Books need to be part of the spell-it-out to be used for points

How a "spell it out" works
Spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book's title, the first letter in the author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter of the series name. As always, if the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word. If you are listening to an audiobook, the first letter in the narrator's first or last name also can be used. We're also allowing for Translators names, as long as the edition you are reading is a translation version.

Themes
We are using holiday themes for the wheel: 2 weeks for Halloween, 2 weeks for Thanksgiving and last 2 weeks for Christmas.

Each wheel will have 24 words matching the corresponding theme, from which 2 would be colours:
- Halloween Colours: Black and Purple
- Thanksgiving Colours: Orange and Brown
- Christmas Colours: Red and Green

The winner of each category will score a spot in our beta run challenge on the website after wheel-a-thon.

If a team wins more than one category, then we will look at second and/or third places. So if a challenge is worth to be on the top 3, this is the one.
