What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This was about a little girl getting taken away from her mother in the 1920s(?), who was a stripper, I think. She had a baby sister named Opal but didn't see her again after she was taken away. I thought the title was "Wrench Monkey" but apparently I misremembered.

The cover was sepia toned and pictured a little girl of about two. The title was in typewriter font and black in color.
