Fantasy Buddy Reads discussion

Buddy read starts 10th December.

Kind of forgot about this. Will most likely start on Wednesday. I have to finish my two current books first.

I haven't got around to starting this yet as I'm reading 6 books right now and there's 3 BRs I should have started. Hopefully at the weekend I'll be able to start this alongside Red Knight.

I still haven’t started. I have like an hour left in my current book. I have a short book I might do next to finish a series then jump to this one depending on if I see you start.

Finished the first 6 chapters and loving it, so glad to be back in this world. Sonea is handling the attacks from her peers remarkably well I think. Im also really enjoying Dannyl's perspective. I genuinely really like him.

Up to chapter 27. (view spoiler)[ Regin really is a piece of shit. He tried to kill Sonea and he isn't arrested, he attacks her again and gets away with it. If she'd attacked him, she would have been expelled and probably imprisoned. It's really disgusting. I hope he gets what's coming to him.

I really like Akkarin as a character. I'm dying to find out why he's using black magic. It's been so many years since I last read this, I have no idea what's coming. (hide spoiler)]

I’m 4 chapters in. I’m kind of sick of the urchin versus the stuck up nobles trope so will see how this goes.

I’ve only just started on Dannyl’s POVs but it sounds like his could be really interesting.

I hope you enjoy it, I ended up really loving this one. Finished it last night and I enjoyed it more than the first book.

Dannyl's POV is great. I really enjoy discovering things as he does and it's nice to see a bit of the world outside of the guild.

Up to chapter 14(view spoiler)[I’m really not enjoying Sonea’s portion at all. Her lessons are interesting but the whole being bullied by Reagin is so overdone. He has no personality outside of his treatment of her. It just feels so generic. I was really hoping that once she moved up that Canavan would move past it or at least put an interesting spin on it. I did get a bit sick of those bits too. I think it was likely done as an obvious way to show that Sonea was such a decent person compared to Regin, despite her origins. He goes on about how she's a criminal and a shitty person because she's from the slums. Comparatively, he's a disgusting person and he's from the houses. It's a bit overdone but it does get the point across.

Finished last night. At the moment I’m most interested to find out what’s up with Akkarin. For some reason I think he will end up being a good guy.
