Thanks RitaSkeeter, yes I have recently finished Looking for Alibrandi as part of the Spring Challenge. It was my Spring Clean - i.e. the one you've been meaning to read for ages but never got around to. I greatly enjoyed it and gave it 4 stars. Will look for more of Melina Marchetti's novels in future.

Thanks for that tip Julie, which I followed through. Starting with The Diggers Rest Hotel was a really good idea. It introduced the character of Charlie Berlin and his feisty female companion Rebecca Green, and gave me a lot of their back stories. Black Wattle Creek is sitting at the top of my stack of books for the Spring Challenge - next in line, so to speak, and undoubtedly my reading of it will benefit from having read the first Charlie Berlin novel.

Good one Mary, I am about two thirds through the third and (I believe-final) of the Charlie Berlin series St Kilda Blues and really enjoying it...so I can recommend that one too if you are keen ;)

Just started it today, and already I'm sucked into that wonderfully evocative post-WW2 atmosphere that McGeachin creates.

Bec (gecko-girl) | 281 comments I have just read my September challenge book which was also my Red Cover book for the Spring Reading Challenge - Crimson Dawn by Fleur McDonald was a great read - I started it on Saturday on the drive to Melb (was too tired on the way back to read) and finished it last night - or should I say this morning since I only picked it up after midnight and thought "i'll just read a few chapters til I get tired" famous last words - finished it at about 4.30am - good thing I'm on holidays now! will post a review shortly

MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) | 934 comments Chugging along nicely with the list of books in my Spring Challenge. Today I have finished Black Wattle Creek and thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree with the reviews of many other Aussie Readers, that this is a first rate piece of crime fiction.
