Brody D1 Summary:
Will, wants to know the secret behind why Lord Orman is sick, but there's word on the street that there's a sorcerer in the woods up. So Will goes and checks it out. Then we learn that the sorcerer is the good guy and that the leader Keren is the bad guy as the book comes to a close.(59)

Analysis:
Towards the beginning of the book the conflict is not really known, but once you work your way into the book you can start to see the conflict begin to stir.

The conflict for Ranger's Apprentice is a Man vs Man

Now most people might think that the conflict begins when Will enters into Grimsdale Woods searching for the Sorcerer on page 144, but the conflict actually kicks off when Will gets called into Lord Orman’s office on page 194. Lord Orman calls Will into his office to warn Will that he has been poisoned by Keren and that Will needs to help him get help from the Sorcerer. We see the conflict start to develop when Lord Orman and Will actually get to Grimsdale Woods and receive help from the Sorcerer (229). At this time Keren spreads word that Lord Orman is a traitor. We also learn Keren actually did poison Lord Orman, so that he could take the rein of the throne. As Keren took the throne, now he has power over the people and he develops his own army loyal to him. What Lord Orman and Will have planned for Keren is unknown. We as readers have to read the next book to find out.(208)

Opinion:
I actually really liked this book I liked how the conflict wasn’t really stated and you kind of had to search for it and I really like books where you have to search for things. I also liked how we were able to see Will’s character revealed a bit more. We slowly learn that Will actually begins to feel some love towards a certain character. Not to name name’s, but Will is beginning to start loving on a girl named Alyss. We learn this when Will states at the very end of the book, “Then, I’m getting Alyss out of your damned castle.” Over all I really loved how this book began start to finish and I especially love how we start to see more of Will the grim Ranger.(130)
