The author suggests these books as further reading. Do any of them look familiar?

Paul Auster, The New York Trilogy; Roberto Bolano, 2666; Julio Cortazar, Hopscotch; Umberto Eco, The Prague Cemetery; Neal Stephenson, Cryptonomicon; Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five; David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest.

Pip | 1822 comments I have read 2666, Cryptonomicon, Slaughterhouse Five and Infinite Jest. I liked the last best and the Stephenson least.

Gail (gailifer) | 2181 comments I have only read Slaughterhouse Five and Infinite Jest. I loved Infinite Jest though it is a strange beast of a book. I also think Slaughterhouse Five is a unique and wonderful statement about war although I did not appreciate its time travel element. Those are the only two on the list that I have read and unfortunately, I will not read any of them except perhaps The Prague Cemetery while reading IQ84.

I read New York Trilogy this year. I’ve read 2666, Crypronomicon, Slaughterhouse-five, and Infinite Jest. I’ve also read 1Q84.

Hilde (hilded) | 376 comments I've only read The New York trilogy of the above, hope to get to the rest some day, but it probably won't be while I'm reading 1Q84.

George P. | 728 comments I've read Slaughterhouse Five (I even performed in a college production of it) and New York Trilogy. I tried reading Hopscotch a few years ago but gave up on it, which is unusual for me. I have read a different novel by Eco (The Name of the Rose) and have Bolano's The Savage Detectives in my TBR list. I might take on Infinite Jest some day- let's see how I do with this one! I started today.

Gail (gailifer) | 2181 comments I found this to be an interesting interview from our author. It has a tiny spoiler in it about IQ84 (you can easily skip the question that sparks it) but I found it insightful.

The New Yorker:
The writer on his style, his process, and the strange, dark places he encounters on the page.
