Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 118 comments A Game of Thrones. Enjoyed it a lot. It's a big book, but it was over so fast. Definitely getting to the rest of the series as soon as possible.

I loved Martin's ASoIaF series when I started reading it sometime in the early 2000s but stopped after A Feast for Crows only because the wait between books was getting ridiculous. When he has a solid release date for the last book I'll start a reread.

The last I read about an update, he still hasn't finished The Winds of Winter and has started nothing on A Dream of Spring.

Yeah I know. It is going to be a long wait I'm thinking. I hope not.

I had been hoping at least The Winds of Winter would have been finished before the TV show but that didn't happen.

I don't think I'm going to even do that. I bought my GOT hardcover the day it came out. The last book came out in 2011. I'm done. I watched the show instead.

I have my doubts that Martin will ever finish another Game of Thrones book.

Growing Things and Other Stories by Paul Tremblay
Growing Things and Other Stories
Paul Tremblay can write great short fiction too! The first half of the book has the best of the stories, but there was only one story I didn't like in the whole collection.

message 416: by Greg (new)

Greg | 1680 comments Finished reading Once Upon a Time in the Weird West a week ago but forgot to mention it here. Really liked the mix of science fiction, steampunk, horror and dark fantasy overall. Each story, most of which were written by women, also contained some male/male romance which I think was handled very well. My only complaint is that the bulk of the stories dealt with the protagonist meeting their significant other for the first time. I would have liked more stories about long established couples.

Finished American Elsewhere yesterday. I thought it was pretty damn good. More of a sci-fi and mystery story than horror but I enjoyed it.

I read her A Feast of Sorrows which I believe includes stories from that collection. Terrific story-teller and a truly good writer. Since you like that, you might also like Theodora Goss' In the Forest of Forgetting.

Right now I'm almost done with Lauren Beukes' The Shining Girls, which is a riveting time time-travel murder mystery.

Char | 17459 comments I finished up Hollow Kingdom Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton on Friday. It wasn't horror, but it was AH. MAZE. ING. Picture the zombie apocalypse, from a domesticated crow's point of view. It was hilarious and extremely well written and I would recommend it to anyone. 5*

I just finished listening to Jonathan Maberry's The Dragon Factory which is the 2nd in the Joe Ledger series. It was excellent. 4.5/5 stars

message 448: by Marie (new)

Marie | 4029 comments I also read this book by author, Hunter Shea which was excellent and I gave it five stars! Monsters/creatures are definitely his specialty and he never disappoints!

The Montauk Monster by Hunter Shea by Hunter Shea

Another book I read about three weeks ago was this one by author, Duncan Ralston. Five star read as I was glued to my kindle as the more I read the book, the harder it was to put down!

Don't Breathe a Word by Jennifer McMahon

Wow. Just wow. Just when the book was getting to a point of frustration of it not telling you what really is going on, it began a roller coaster ride to the finish telling you what happened. And didn't happen. Or maybe happened. And every revelation only made the story more intense and shocking.
