For Best Fantasy, I've read Circe (feel free to pick it up - the audiobook is awesome!) so I'll be reading #2 which was The Shape of Water.

I'm pretty nervous about it since there's some romance but I'll read it and watch the movie too!

message 2: by Leticia (new)

Leticia (leticiatoraci) The books Circe by Madeline Miller or The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro aren't my first choice here. I'll read Foundryside (Founders, #1) by Robert Jackson Bennett and/or Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
The book Magic Triumphs (Kate Daniels, #10) by Ilona Andrews is the tenth and last book of a very entertaining urban fantasy series I've read for almost a decade now LOL. If you want a light guilty read sometime, this series delivers it.

Marek (lostsanity137) | 3 comments Both Circe and Shape of Water are on my TBR so I look forward to reading them both this year.

message 4: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I will probably read Spinning Silver or maybe Shape of Water.

I'll definitely be reading Foundryside! I've been on the waiting list at my library for a while now... no idea when I'll be able to get to it but for sure before the end of the year!

message 6: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Foundyside is another one I want to get to at some point.

message 7: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Foundryside was amazing! It's an adventurous heist story sprinkled with a little intrigue. The magic system is basically coding (like with computers). You can write the word "rock" on a tree, and the tree will take on more characteristics of a rock, and that's just a simple example.

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Schultz | 6 comments I just got Foundryside as an audiobook from my library ;) and an hour in, I can already see why it was recommended by Brandon Sanderson. The way the author deals with "magic" is very Sandersonian! I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy it A LOT.

message 9: by Kashmyre (new)

Kashmyre | 6 comments Oh my my Foundryside keep getting more and more interesting !

message 10: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 2 comments I put Circe audiobook book on hold at the library even though I have the physical copy. I just couldn’t get into it but when you said audio was great, I decided to try it!

message 11: by Karen (new)

Karen | 32 comments I love Circe. I'm about half way, a little more than half (?) way through. Though, the library took it back, so I need to request it again. The writing is gorgeous; it's like reading a song.

I really want to read Foundryside, so that's on my list!

message 12: by Shannon (new) - added it

Shannon (musingsofacat) My husband and I are reading Circe together, we have the physical copy and I've been reading a chapter or two aloud here and there so we can both enjoy it. We're both loving it so far and he's enjoying my reading it as he's much more of an auditory person. :)

The Kate Daniels series is one of my favorites! I highly recommend it to everyone :) It is 10 books plus novellas, but they are really quick reads so it's not nearly as long as it seems

Leonie’s Little Library | 4 comments Shape of Water is an interesting and pretty quick read but made me feel very icky.... wait until you reach the drawn image which is even worse than I had ever imagined

Christy | 4 comments Just finished Circe could not put it down such a good book! Not to sure about reading the Shape of water :/ Is it worth reading ?

message 16: by Kashmyre (new)

Kashmyre | 6 comments I think the shape of water work better as a movie than a book, the beauty of Del Torro is in his stories but aswell in the atmosphere he visually creates. He's one of my favorite director (pan's labyrinth being an all time fave) but i don't think the book adaptation ( because it was writtent after the movie) would do justice to this beautiful and heartwrecking movie.

I am also unsure about reading Shape of Water. It won best picture and I was still like hmm I don't want to watch that lol
I am excited to start Circe though! I just moved up to #3 on my hold/waiting list at the library. Better late than never!

Celina | 7 comments I just bought „a darker shade of magic“ I can’t wait to read it, but I just need to finish the queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner.

Hoooo can you tell me more about the queen's thief series ? I'm really interested in The thief, could you give me your thoughts ?

message 20: by Celina (new)

Celina | 7 comments @Kashmyre ... I am on book two until know I think I will be continuing the series but I don‘t know if I like it. It’s alright but I’m not loving it.

I'm not Emily so I don't know if you care about my opinion but A Darker Shade of Magic is SO GOOD.

message 22: by Celina (new)

Celina | 7 comments @Nikol Every opinion matters! 😊

Can me tell anyone how I can „copy“ the answers from the others in italic like everybody else 😂

I did like it! I did find the last book a bit disappointing personally though. I think after reading book 2 in the Villains duolody, I prefer than series by her now!

message 27: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca just started the Poppy War yesterday since that was the first library copy available of the books on this list I hadn't read yet. so far am liking ig but am angry with her tutor who encouraged self harm, and am wishing that was being handled in a better way rather than making it look like a viable study aide...

message 28: by Julenka (new)

Julenka | 1 comments Joining in whenever someone wants to read Foundryside from next month on! Have had it on my tbr for too long now and it seems like the hype is starting by now, so I want to read it as long as I don't have waaay too high expectations for it haha

message 29: by Imane (new) - added it

Imane (booksaccino) | 3 comments I have heard about the movie but never knew it was originally a book! I don't know how I missed that! Luckily, I haven't watched the movie so I can still read the book.

Circe was amazing!

message 30: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca dnf'd The Poppy War. its handling of self-harm and other sensitive issues concerning self destructive actions was making me want to swear in Mandalorian and Elvish. Hopefully Foundryside will be better.

I've seen the movie. Visually, it's beautiful. The scene with the cat, though... Was it absolutely necessary to include that? The movie hasn't motivated me to read the book. It is worth seeing, but it could have been better.

Jenna War (jennawar) | 48 comments I just got Circe from my library today. I started reading it and I am liking it so far. I tried to go in mostly blind, but everyone says it’s a great read so I do hope it lives up to those expectations.

Jenna War (jennawar) | 48 comments I gave Circe 5 stars! Has anyone read and enjoyed SoW?

Leticia (leticiatoraci) I heard the Audiobook of Circe by Madeline Miller and liked it a lot, my rating was 5 stars!
I also read Foundryside (Founders, #1) by Robert Jackson Bennett and it was not so for me, rating: 3 stars.
