Please feel free to discuss Chapters 1-9 in this thread.
Please make sure not to spoil anything that comes later as many people are reading for the first time and/or have not watched the show.

Fatima | 2 comments "Bran thought about it. 'Can a man still be brave if he's afraid?'
'That is the only time a man can be brave,' his father told him."

"Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you."

OMG I'm in love with this book. I'm feeling so happy to participate in this challenge and start reading this series ❤❤❤

Did anybody pick up on the foreshadowing in Bran's first chapter when they find the Direwolves?

I'm so glad I've seen the show so I can pick up on things like this otherwise they'd go straight over my head!

Gabrielle | 3 comments I caught it. I thought it was interesting that Ned brushed it off like it’s nothing but others take notice and are a big nervous about it.

Spidermonkey | 7 comments The prologue was so intense lol :D This is kind of heavy to read because there is so much politics and many different characters. But I'm still liking this and interested in reading more! And since I have not seen the tv show I'm experiencing this all at the first time. This gives me a little bit of those Throne of Glass vibes, except the characters are more interesting because they are not perfect and they has their flaws and weaknesses.

My favourite characters so far are Dany and Jon but I also like Tyrion, he is funny :)

I decided to read this as my "side project", with some other books. So I divided it into 14-page chunks per day so that I'll get it done by the last day of February. This feels like a good amount to read in a day. Of course I'll read more if I want to :)

Lashette | 2 comments Bran's 2nd chapter always hits me hard. It really highlights how ruthless and brutal both the series as a whole and GRRM is.

Lesa Divine | 2 comments This is a reread for me. I'm happy to be back in this world. Havent read this since it was first published. Since watching the shows i can picture the characters as the actors this read around.

message 10: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (nennez) I had decided for myself to not read A Game of Thrones because I've already read the first book in this series and have a huge TBR so I don't have time to reread books right now. But ofcourse I couldn't keep my eyes away from the book on my shelves and I LOVE IT. I should reread books more often.

I'm tho reading it in swedish (my native language) and some of the name of the characters and places has been replaced to a swedish version, which really confuses and frustrates me. I read the book in english the first time I read it and I got so confused and didn't like George R. R. Martin's writing style at all. But I can handle all the details of clothes in swedish much better!
