Alex Hayward | 2 comments The next morning, we were all up at 8 am and went to the hotel lobby to be picked up by our ride to work. None of us had much sleep after such a long night. I remember sitting in the lobby with Cindy as the morning rays of sunlight shone in from the overhead glass. Her hair looked uncharacteristically mussed about much like someone who had had a rough night. I was delighted to see her this way as she was normally so neat in appearance. The coffee mugs in the lobby were oversized to the point of being comical. Somewhat amused, I watched as she wrapped her small hands around her coffee and lifted it up to her mouth.
“Are you going to drink all that,” I said, smiling.
She laughed.
“No, I just take a few sips.”
“Cindy,” I began, quieting my voice so the others wouldn’t hear our conversation, “did I say or do anything out of the way last night?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, did I say anything to you out of the ordinary?”
“No, why?”
“Nothing. I just wanted to make sure.”
I was being a bit manipulative. I knew very well I had not said anything out of the norm, but I asked her so as to hint that I was worried that I might have said something personal to her in my uninhibited state. There was no way to tell if she took the hint, but I felt satisfied with myself that I had just planted at least a small seed. I thought that perhaps if I dropped more hints, she would begin to get an idea of how I felt about her.
