Hello and welcome to Uno 2019!

I am your captain for this year's trip to search out the truth.

Please make sure your Uno shelves are correctly named and link it here in chat, thanks! I will link them above for easier access.

Please only put books onto your Uno shelf once they are read. It makes it easier for captains to check if we didn't forget to put a book onto the spreadsheet, verify read dates etc.

For those of you who are new to this challenge, or team challenges in general, please make sure you understand the rules. If you still have questions, feel free to ask away! Either here, or feel free to pm me.

I hope we're going to have a lot of fun! Enjoy the challenge! :-)

DoodlePanda Hello! I'm really looking forward to this! I played for the first time last year and have been planning on joining again this year since then!

message 9: by Rina (new)

Rina Hi everyone! I am Rina, it's my first UNO Challenge.

My shelf: Link

message 10: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda Doh, I forgot to link my uno shelf!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Hello, everyone! This is also my first UNO Challenge, although I've participated in other group team challenges.

My shelf is: uno 2019

https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Just a note I will be out of town and unavailable a few days in February -- the 14th and returning on the 17th. Going on a little vacation. I'm not sure if a hand is counted by the week or not but we can plan around it for me to get my books done before leaving if possible that week.

message 13: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda We get the hands by month I think, so we should be able to work around that :D

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Okay great, I know the vacation coincided with the challenge so wanted to prepare in advance just in case so I don't leave anyone hanging :)

message 15: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1282 comments Good morning all. The cards we have for the month are linked above and in the s/sheet. In general the cards will fill out themselves with the books we read for the month. The only exception to this is the coloured cards and reverse.

Blue and green are the colours we need most of, check your shelves to see if you can help out on these.

We have 4 reverse cards, if you have a book that one of our team has Read, note it here and we can slot it in.

Tina | 768 comments Hello everyone! So excited to play UNO with all of you:) This will be my 5th UNO Challenge.

My shelf is: UNO challenge 2019

Do you want us to let you know before we read a book, which cards it works for, or we let you know after we've finished?

message 17: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda I was just wondering if the Captain will be updating the sheet, or are we doing it ourselves? I know different groups did it differently last year :)

message 18: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1282 comments @ Tina if you're reading a book that covers one of the difficult cards, let us know e.g reverse, coloured, V's or E's or I's.

@DoodlePanda, Rina and I will be updating the s/sheet. I know a few groups have a tracking sheet but this can be overwhelming.

I've requested a thread be set up for Books Read so that all books can be logged there. Once we have this I'll link it above.

message 19: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda Oh that sounds great, my friend was in one of the groups with a tracking sheet and she didnt like it, so I'm glad we're not doing that! :D

Okay, I will go hunting this week. Made a planning bookshelf for my own use just in case.

Welcome everyone, now we are all here lets' get some serious planning done.

If anyone can cover any of the coloured cards, let us know. We also have a whole bunch of Skip, 5, 2, 7 and 4.

We're all here and have some time to get to know each other before the challenge starts.

• Where are you from?
• What is your favourite genre?

message 31: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda I'll have a look to see if I find any coloured books in my TBR!

I'm from Norway, and i read mainly fiction, favourite genres are fantasy, scifi and horror :)

I plan on making some notes of colored books soon. I saw the helpful shelves provided by the mods that other day in announcements as well.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash)

Lakeland, Florida (Central), and my favorite genre is Urban Fantasy. I love Paranormal in all genres, though - mystery, romance, horror, childrens, you name it. I read a little bit of everything for the most part.

message 34: by Rina (new)

Rina I am from Switzerland and my favorite genres are paranormal, fantasy, ya, mystery; bur I read almost all genres.

message 35: by Rina (last edited Jan 16, 2019 09:46AM) (new)

Rina Some of the books I have a hold on and that I will get in February:

Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews - 5 green, 6 green, reverse
The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager - 2 blue, 7 blue, reverse
Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill - reverse

Louise | 1282 comments The Beast (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #14) by J.R. Ward 2 Blue, 7 Blue
The Wisdom of Madness (Ministry of Curiosities, #10) by C.J. Archer 6 Green
Settling Up by Eryn Scott 8 yellow
Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels, #5.5) by Ilona Andrews Reverse
Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth 2 Blue, 7 blue

message 37: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1282 comments I live in a currently very wet South Wales.
My go to genre of choice is Mysteries, followed a close second by paranormal in all it's guises, in particular Vampires. I will read nearly anything.

message 38: by Carlie (new)

Carlie (carlie892) | 159 comments I’m from Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia.

Favorite genre is a hard one! Historical fiction is high on my list, as is YA, but I’m on a bit of a fantasy kick at the moment.

I’m going to take a look at my library holds and unread bookshelf this week and see what I have that will work for our harder cards!

message 39: by Tina (new)

Tina | 768 comments I've found two books we can use for Reverse and some books we can use for 2, 5, 7, 8 and SKIP. It's harder for me to find books that match a certain color. I don't know how many books I'll be able to read next month so let me know if it's something specific I should focus on. Otherwise I'll just read randomly and let you know:)

I'm from the south of Sweden and my favorite genre is Romance. I read YA, NA, contemporary, mystery, thriller, paranormal, as long as romance is a part of it:)

message 40: by Nikki (last edited Jan 17, 2019 01:13PM) (new)

Nikki (levistorm) | 110 comments I'm from the Netherlands! I don't reaaaally have a favourite genre, most of the time as long as the story is interesting I'm just happy to read it, though I do love a good contemporary fiction book.

When I have some time tomorrow, I'll sit down and see if I can find some books for our coloured or the more difficult cards.

I live in Chicago but I'm originally from Syria. My favorite genre is fantasy/urban fantasy/paranormals or sci-fi but I read any book that I can put my hands on.

message 42: by Carlie (last edited Jan 20, 2019 09:08AM) (new)

Carlie (carlie892) | 159 comments Doing some Uno planning today, and I've found a few books that will work :). I have several regular number cards figured out, but I'll just note the harder cards here.

Skip - The Kingdom of Copper

Draw 2 (from Hand Seven) - The Sisters of the Winter Wood

I'll keep looking and see if there are any Reverses or color cards I can cover as well.

Also - sorry if this is a silly question - do I need to plan on reading these at a certain time, or can I just read them whenever during February and they'll fit into our challenge as needed? Meaning, do I need to wait until Hand One is completely finished before I can start reading any books I planned for Hand Two, and so on?

message 43: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1282 comments As long as they are Read in February we can move things around as needed.

What will generally happen is that books that will fill the harder cards or the most frequent will be filled First and then others will be filled. So it could work out that we will have quite a few partially completed hands in the first week or two.

message 44: by Carlie (new)

Carlie (carlie892) | 159 comments Louise wrote: "As long as they are Read in February we can move things around as needed..."

Perfect!

message 45: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1282 comments I note as well that you have a book marked for Draw 2. This is a card that we do not need to fill. It let's us use 1 book for 2 cards in the hand, in effect completing 3 cards in that hand. Again these tend to be filled as and when we can.

message 46: by Carlie (new)

Carlie (carlie892) | 159 comments Louise wrote: "I note as well that you have a book marked for Draw 2..."

Oh yes, I just meant that particular book fills two cards in that hand, but I see now that it's probably really easy to fit in books for hands with Draw 2 cards :)

message 47: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda I'm not very good at planning ahead what to read as it depends a lot on what mood I am in, but I will list every card that the book I've read can count towards :)

At first glance I haven't found any coloured options from the books in TBR list, but I could have a look on amazon if i can find any on Kindle unlimited if we are struggling to fill some of them.

message 48: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda Less than a week to go!
I'm trying to finish up the stuff I'm currently reading so I will be ready to start reading for the challenge :)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I sorted some colored books in my bookshelves. Do we just mark here what book fits what once we're done, and then it will be moved to the right task on the spreadsheet?

Was planning to do a blue book at the beginning of February

Spindrift by Amy Rae Durreson

message 50: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1282 comments All books will be posted in our Books Read Sherlock Holmes thread. Rina and I will be able to post to the s/sheet as needed. 😊
