Peter Tillman | 5 comments I'm going to try initiating a RASS/rasfw (USENET) style thread here, since that's what I miss most from there. If you don't know the acronyms, not to worry. And, I've been reading this stuff for a LONG time. You can read my profile, if you like, to see what I do (or did).

OK, IMMORTALITY! A topic that very few people don't find interesting, even if they are indifferent to written SF. But, of course, we Fans speculate better, right? This started out over at Sarah's, that is, ✘✘ Sarah ✘✘ (former Nefarious Breeder of Murderous Crustaceans):

My own plan for Immortality is to return as a forest mycelium net, or perhaps a Creosote-bush clone: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Clone !
Emperor Creosote, that's for me! Has a nice ring to it, don't you think? I'm working on small details, such as vision in my new immortal life. I'll rely on Flunkies to hold the books, & turn the pages. Hmm. Young, barely-legal dancing girls? 💃🙋‍♀️ [note the cheerful volunteer]. As I say, a few details yet to work out for my glorious and everlasting Imperial future. Such as, a libido transplant for His Bushiness? 👑 👯‍♀️

Actually, I'm working on the tiresome details of keeping vision going until then. There's cataract surgery in my future! After a few tooth transplants/implants. Aren't you glad you're (comparatively) young?

Re: length of Imperial reign
A mere 11,700 years? Sounds a little -- skimpy -- to me. Memo to self: Get the Imperial Botanical Research Center established, and make this a top priority!

Oh, and defense ! Build an Air Force base near the Imperial Clone, with plenty of AA missiles! 🚀 Consider nuclear weapons? 🍄 Secret gardens of clonelets?
Hrm on the last, as this could raise the possibility of a Usurper. 👑?👸? Must do more thought and planning, for this. Fortunately, even if The Imperial We spends half his expected lifetime on this, that allows plenty of time for reading, and dancing girls. Could fertilizer give a bush a thrill? 🎁 👯‍♀️ 👯‍♀️ 🎉

Sarah, if you would settle for 215 years, here's an aquatic animal of possible interest: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanako_...
Yes, I know you are on record: "Fish are BORING". 🍤 ⌴ ℥ Still, 215 yrs isn't chopped liver!

[4] There's really quite a lot of interest here,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

●"During the 1990s, Raul Cano, a microbiologist at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, revived yeast trapped in amber for 25 million years. Cano went on to found a brewery and crafted an "amber ale" with a 45-million-year-old variant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae." Huh. Well, a rather limited form of Immortality (henceforth IM).

● Microorganisms: "Some endoliths have extremely long lives. In August 2013, researchers reported evidence of endoliths in the ocean floor, perhaps millions of years old, with a generation time of 10 millennia.[!!] These are slowly metabolizing, not in a dormant state.

"An endolith is an organism (archaeon, bacterium, fungus, lichen, algae or amoeba) that lives inside rock, coral, animal shells, or in the pores between mineral grains of a rock. Many are extremophiles, living in places long imagined inhospitable to life. They are of particular interest to astrobiologists, who theorize that endolithic environments on Mars and other planets constitute potential refugia for extraterrestrial microbial communities.." . 🚀 Whee! 👯‍♀️

OK, Deep Enough, for now. I have to head over to the Doctor's office in a few minutes, to learn if I will live through the night. Just kidding! I hope.

Doctor : I have some bad news and some very bad news.
Patient : Well... give me the bad news first.
Doctor : The lab called with your test results. They said you have 24 hours to live.
Patient : 24 hours! My God!! What could be worse?
Doctor : I've been trying to reach you since yesterday.

Trike Oh, how I miss rasfw and rasfm. Damn you, Google! Damn you all to hellll!

As for immortality, I’m hoping for a full mind upload into an android body. I’ll dupe my brain into a second bod and come visit you, maybe do a bit of weeding.

Peter Tillman | 5 comments re: Emperor Clone, a giant, ancient Ring of Creosote Bushes!
Imagine that, a giant Bush with nuclear weapons! Could never happen, right?

They do this in RL, by secreting toxic chemicals into the soil, to prevent rivals from growing. Which is pretty clever. Biochemical warfare!

Peter Tillman | 5 comments My sfnal model for this foolishness is (roughly) " Emperor Mollusk versus The Sinister Brain" by A. Lee Martinez, which I liked a LOT: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
