I assume that this means, for example, "river" would work for the water option, but not "Mississippi".
But what if the word is used as a name in the book title? eg River Phoenix: A Short Life

Yes, you are thinking correctly, and River Phoenix would work because of the word River, regardless of its application.

I have a few questions about the polls for the animals and birds. Will subtitles count ie Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog or Wild Within: How Rescuing Owls Inspired a Family ?
Would the actual words “Animal “ or “Bird” fit for the respective task? My Family and Other Animals or The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle
Does the word in the title have to refer to a character in the book? ie The Sinister Pig (the pig in the title refers to a piece of equipment used in drilling) or. To Kill a Mockingbird
Can they be fictional animals or birds? The Last Unicorn or Mockingjay
Would compound words work?Beartown or Dovecote
And would animals mean only mammals?

1. subtitles count.
2. the generic word does not count
3. the word does not have to refer to a character in the book
4. fictional birds/animals will not count
5. compound words do not work, but plurals and possessives will be accepted

The Hours After: Letters of Love and Longing in War's Aftermath by Gerda Weissmann Klein
Will this qualify for translation points? The book was published in English in the US but the original letters were written in German and translated prior to publication.
From the book (back of title page) “The letters here are translated from the original German and edited for readability by the authors.”

As the work was originally published in English, it doesn't qualify for Lost in Translation.

Yes, it will. (and I just checked for Lexile, and you're clear on that front, too.)

Thanks!

Yes, the format you read doesn't matter. The MPE has 172 pages. Take the combo for 10.8 Megafinish while you're at it.

Thanks!

I have already completed task 20.6 Ellen Foster, but I want to read The Professor by Charlotte Bronte. If I had not completed the task the points would be:
20 task
10 review
15 Oldie
45 task total
But I think that for second books in a category it is just +20 or +10 and we do not do a review? Is that correct?

So....I was hoping to fit The Mueller Report by The Washington Post into a Summer task...it is listed as having 728 pages. Since the author is listed differently than The Mueller Report will it be treated as a Big Book? or will the 172 page count rule? Perhaps this is not even germane if there is not a Big Book Style...but it good be germane to the 15 point tasks.

The MPE for that appears to be fluid. Earlier, when Karen Michelle claimed that book, it was The Mueller Report at 172 pages. I see now that it is The Mueller Report: The Final Report of the Special Counsel into Donald Trump, Russia, and Collusion at 480 pages. The top 3 on the other editions list are Kindle editions, which will not become the MPE due to format. I don't see the potential for a physical edition with 500+ pages becoming the MPE.

Thank you for the information!

ok...thanks

Unfortunately, you're at 20/21 because of Ender's Game.
